Who can truly die with a soul that's absolutely pure and spotless, or utterly black to the core...? “Even knowing how foolish it is, if you can build a world through your own choices, perhaps that is the greatest luxury humanity is allowed.” The boy's jade-green eyes held a childish air of nonchalance and conceit. “So it's okay if you don't believe in yourselves. You only need to believe in me.” “Believe absolutely in me, the omnipotent number-one detective in the world.” Fourteen-year-old Ranpo curled his lips into a smile. In a tone so innocent it almost sounded like a plea for affection, he said what might have been the most arrogant words in the world to five young men who were still attending the police academy at the time. “Because before you reach the end of your rope and die for good, I'll snatch your lives back from the hands of the Grim Reaper.” * [Blurb Two] Stars grow dim, and the moon falls from the sky. One day, even the sun will quietly die at the end of time. Does anything in this world truly stay the same forever? Yes. No matter when, death, the symbol of life's withering and decline, is the only thing that treats everyone equally. When that time comes, the stars will smile again, and the moon will once more hang high in the night sky. And another sun will slowly awaken on the far side of time's rebirth. “So come pick the stars with the great detective!” >>>>>>> *Reader's guide* (Please read for content warnings) ↓↓↓ ◇ This story has a male lead with no romantic pairing, a touch of ensemble cast, a serious plot, and a beloved cat at its center. ◇ The original timeline may be adjusted to fit the plot. There will be a little angst, but the ending is happy. ◇ Original settings and out-of-character moments ahead. Character details have been slightly adjusted to fit the Detective Conan storyline. ◇ Ranpo is the brains and deductive genius of the story. No System, no forum, no villain arc, no drinking, and no supernatural abilities. His personality will stay as close as possible to the original Bungou Stray Dogs' catlike Ranpo. ◇ The characters are the ones who plan things, but this isn't a story about a mastermind operating behind the scenes, and the characters aren't perfect. The story is mainly told from Ranpo's perspective, with Kaito and Shinichi as two other important characters. This follows an alternate timeline in which Kaito and Ranpo are adopted by the Kudo family. Kaito, Shinichi, and Ranpo are childhood friends. They lean toward the Red side, though they're somewhat neutral. They have dealings with the Black side, but never get involved with alcohol. ◇ The main plot is based on Detective Conan (over 95%). The original Detective Conan story is heavily reworked, and the worldbuilding for Magic Kaito is also reset. There are also a few elements from Bungou Stray Dogs and occasional appearances by characters from sports anime. ◇ Most cases in this story are original. The author's IQ may go offline from time to time, so I can't guarantee there won't be bugs in the plot or deductions. Please leave your brain here before reading. ◇ This is a Detective Conan fanfiction, with no supernatural abilities or underworld settings that contradict the Conan universe. In other words, the Bungou Stray Dogs characters with supernatural abilities will basically not appear in the main story. Whether they'll appear in extras is undecided √ ◇ Shinichi x Ran and Kaito x Aoko are not couples here. They have a childhood-friends bond. Shinichi and Kaito have no romantic pairing [Important] ◇ The police academy group will appear and have a substantial role in the plot. ◇ Please follow proper reading etiquette: don't mention other authors' stories in my comments, and please don't mention my stories under other authors' work either. Thank you so much! ↑ That's all. Theme: Reach out and pick the stars, walking alongside the light
