The Gods Descend

In the ninth year after Mu Chiyun ascended to immortality, the world changed beyond recognition.

First, he noticed a group of strangely dressed people appearing around him. Then, after running into one dead end after another, he encountered all sorts of troublesome "evil things."

Evil thing number one: something made of solid metal from head to toe, with no head, resembling a furnace that had come to life. It shed rust as it walked.

Evil thing number two: something that kept spitting bubbles from its mouth, and when the bubbles burst, they unleashed foul-smelling shockwaves. A... let's call it a "catfish."

The "catfish" slapped its heavy silvery-white metal tail against the ground and advanced on him, making a harsh thumping sound.

Later, he met the strangely dressed group again. Their leader turned out to be a seemingly indestructible robot.

The robot looked at him, then suddenly shed its hard outer shell.

The robot's true form was a refined, scholarly man, with a pair of glass lenses perched on his tall nose. He wore no hair ornament and no long robe. He and Mu Chiyun seemed to come from entirely different worlds.

He narrowed his eyes, the corners of his lips lifting in a practiced smile, and introduced himself to Mu Chiyun. "I'm Zhao Yishi, First Security Officer."

In truth, Zhao Yishi should have been the Alliance's First Security Officer. But the world as it was now seemed to have merged with a cultivation world from a parallel universe...

He looked up and met the man's faintly amused gaze. "Mu Chiyun, the ninety-ninth sect master of the Qingxuan Sect."
