Bloodstained pipes that never get clean, eyes peering out from the shadows beneath the bed, a knock at two in the morning, and a hallway that’s empty when you open the door...

As night falls, strange things stir in the shadows of the city beneath dazzling, multicolored lights.

Su Ting is an ordinary man with no inspiration, completely unaware of the bizarre changes taking place in the world. He runs an unremarkable pet shop, taking in stray animals from the streets. It doesn’t make much money, but life is warm and peaceful when he’s surrounded by adorable little animals.

The only thing that bothers him is that patients who seem to have escaped from the psychiatric hospital next door keep claiming to be his followers. How strange.

As the paranormal resurfaces, organizations around the world establish investigation teams to deal with the growing number of paranormal creatures and the secret groups formed by terrorists.

At a meeting of investigators, the team leader looked grave.

“Over the past year, paranormal creatures have been appearing with increasing frequency. There have also been several terrifying incidents with no known cause, apparently involving high-level paranormal entities fighting among themselves. Here’s part of a conversation between those entities that our headquarters’ psychics have just deciphered.”

Paranormal Creature A: “I really should take you out. I’ve put up with you for ages, you perverted octopus!”

Paranormal Creature B: “You’re the octopus! Your whole family’s octopuses! That’s mine, you shameless thief!”

Paranormal Creature C: “Crunch, crunch, ”

Paranormal Creatures A and B: “...You bastard!”

The team leader spoke sternly. “They must be fighting over some kind of high-level resource. Don’t assume all paranormal creatures are stupid. High-level entities are very intelligent. They’ll fight over resources and even use sophisticated tactics.”

One of the investigators nodded. “I wonder what they’re fighting over. They’re going at it so fiercely, it must be something incredibly important.”

After a burst of static, the conversation continued.

Paranormal Creature B: “Waaah, my little cookie! You lousy sloth, give me back my cookie!”

Paranormal Creature C: “Crunch, crunch, ”

Paranormal Creature A: “You’re still eating? That was the last cookie A Ting gave us! I’m going to turn you into a fur coat!”

The team leader: “...”

The investigators: “???”
