Once he learned that it was one of countless Dragon eggs discarded by other Dragons, and that whether a new little Dragon ever hatched depended entirely on the heavens, he stopped wasting words. Without a sound, he gathered up every egg he could find that was still alive. Before long, he had settled into his cave completely. While his fellow Dragons looked on in confusion, he personally incubated the eggs and raised the little Dragon cubs, becoming the one and only stay-at-home Dragon dad on Dragon Island. His fellow Dragons were baffled by his behavior. He had the shiny scales they loved and a graceful, slender figure, and he was the only Golden Dragon to appear in more than a thousand years. After they had marveled at his unfathomable ways for a while, they stopped paying attention. They went back to seeking pleasure with one another and passing the long years. That is, until more than ten years later, when a bunch of scoundrel Dragons he'd raised ambushed them.
