The story:

[Heavenly Lord Tongtian (Patriarch Bodhi) x Sun Wukong. The love interest is imprisoned, and they won't meet at first. The story will gradually diverge further and further from the original.]

After Tripitaka set out west, the entire Tang dynasty saw a sky screen showing Master Xuanzang's journey in real time.

The strange thing was that only the Tang dynasty could see the sky screen, and people could discuss its contents only within the Tang dynasty. They couldn't tell anyone involved in the pilgrimage. Perhaps the Heavenly Dao didn't want mortals interfering and changing everything beyond recognition.

Tang merchant: Oh, this is wonderful! Trade depends on getting information first. Thank you, sky screen! I only wish Master Xuanzang would wander around more, so we could see what the markets in the Western Regions have to offer.

Li Shimin: That place they just passed looks good. Let's send the monks and Daoists to scout ahead. If it checks out, we'll send troops to take it. Expanding our territory is a delight.

From Wukong's perspective: After confirming that he was the only one who could see the sky screen, Sun Wukong realized he couldn't leave because he was wearing the Golden Headband.

So he chose to repay Tang Sanzang for his kindness and settle a debt of karma that shouldn't have existed, using every means at his disposal to make the journey easier.

But the more he watched, the more the sky screen gave Wukong a familiar feeling.

It was like someone was about to knock him on the head.

Wukong couldn't help rubbing his round head, earning a fit of laughter from Zhu Bajie.

From Tongtian's perspective: Tongtian once believed that if he sent Wukong far away and forbade him from talking about their sect, Wukong could avoid disaster and ultimately have a happy ending.

After all, what terrible fate could befall one little monkey that was worse than the fate of his Jie Sect?

Only when the world favored him and bestowed upon him the complete text of Journey to the West from another world, along with the tools needed to livestream, did Tongtian feel regret. He never imagined that after leaving his sect, the ignorant little monkey would be deceived by the West and become a captive Buddha, just like his former disciples, changed beyond recognition.

He founded the Jie Sect to seize a thread of life from the heavens and earth. Now, that thread of life has finally fallen into his hands.

With a chance to turn things around, Tongtian is determined to become the mastermind behind the scenes and escape his fate.
