Bound to Batman to Save My Own Skin

Note: The pairing is with Bruce Wayne. Batman is just starting out and still green, with his appearance based on the fourth Batman.

Fate can be a real bitch. Jack thought the worst that could happen was ending up as a gang's hired muscle, dying alone on the streets, or not living long enough to grow old.

But he never imagined there could be something even worse: he was the Joker's backup!

The moment the current Joker died, Jack would become the next Joker.

Jack: ?!

Jack thought there was something wrong with his name, so he decided to change it.

He went from Jack Jackson (Jack Jackson) to Jack Bennett (Jack Bennett).

Surely a double curse becoming a single curse would be better.

But his growing resistance to injury and his ability to heal told him things hadn't gotten much better.

Jack had no idea what to do. Then a black figure fell from the sky, and a just-starting-out Batman landed right in front of him.

Jack knew the main storyline of this world. Batman was one of the good guys!

Jack helped Batman, whose whole body radiated irritation, to his feet and asked, “Can I apply to be your sidekick, Bruce Wayne?”
