[Detective Conan] Project Alice

The image shakes. A man stands at the edge of a rooftop, then turns to face the camera. The wind fills his jacket and T-shirt, whipping his straw-like hair about.

He narrows his eyes and flashes a brilliant grin, spreading his arms as if to embrace the world. The next moment, a sniper's bullet comes from the side and blows his head apart.

The footage ends.

More than a year after the organization was destroyed, Rei Furuya received an utterly absurd new assignment. If Kuroda Hyoue hadn't handed him the paper file himself, he would have thought it was an April Fool's joke.

[Mission: Use the March Hare's Pocket Watch and investigate the truth behind the death of the person in the video alongside A.]

Holding the envelope containing the materials, he opened the door, only to find a person inside whose face was identical to the deceased's.

"Hello," the other man said with the same enthusiastic smile. "I'm A. You can also call me Kanzaki Arisu."

No one knows. Memories twisted. Nothing can be changed.

A's story.

-

A fantasy story about manipulating time that looks like science fiction. The author hasn't read Steins;Gate, but has watched Interstellar and other works.

The protagonist, A, is an iron-blooded Public Security officer. The main point of view may be Rei. The organization has been destroyed, and the police academy group survives.

The ending is as described in the blurb. Please heed the warning.

Theme: Though we will eventually vanish into the river of time, someone will keep up the futile fight forever.
