Yiling Luan has absolutely terrible luck in games. Specifically, no matter what game it is, if it comes down to pure skill, he can always play amazingly well. But when it comes to gacha, he only ever gets R-rank cards.
A new game recently launched, featuring all kinds of eye-catching characters: fair-skinned beauties with long legs, and handsome men everywhere you look.
Players charged into the game, saying things like, "Ooh, I am so in," but most of them came back from their first run in tears.
"You absolutely cannot trust anything Dazai Osamu says! I thought he really believed in me, but then he turned around and shot me dead!"
"Who said Nakahara Chuuya was easy to get along with? I had just started talking to him when he killed me for supposedly hurting a member of the Sheep!"
"How is Oda Sakunosuke easy to get along with? He's so cold, and after running around doing everything, he still ended up dying. He really never treated me as a friend!" (This player encountered Oda as a child.)
A crowd of players with SSR and SR cards died and wailed on the forums. After Yiling Luan, who had only drawn R cards, showed off his cards on the forum, everyone immediately took pity on him and wrote off his chances.
Yiling Luan: ...Who told you R cards can't get a good ending?
Well, I'll be damned if I believe that.
So he logged in, made a quick series of moves, and promptly posted his ending.
[R-Rank Feng Tong] (Long black hair, blue eyes, handsome features, slender build, average strength, and a healing core. But once he gives it away, he will die.)
Unlocked the warm bad ending [The Flower of the Wind in Your Heart]
Achievement CG [Beneath the Dim Lights] (The three members of the Ruffians, along with a man whose long black hair covers half his face, raise their glasses. "A toast to the Stray Dogs.")
[The Beginning of the Heart] (A long-haired man holds Dazai Osamu's face in both hands and looks at him earnestly. He suggests they try writing together, maybe they can find a reason to live.)
[Last-Ditch Rescue] (The long-haired man bursts through the door and swiftly leads the children and the owner to safety. Gide's troops arrive two minutes later.)
[One Step Too Late] (He misses his chance. Distracted by moving the children and the owner, he fails to notice Oda Sakunosuke, who has misunderstood and lost his painful hold on life's meaning. Just as he arrives, he sees Oda pierced by a bullet.)
[The Passing of Faith] (The man kisses Oda Sakunosuke and passes him the healing core hidden in his chest, mouth to mouth. He gives Oda a loose, almost nonexistent embrace, then slowly falls into his arms, dissolving into points of light.)
Character voice lines: "My name is Feng Tong. I suppose it means 'the pupil of the wind.' My ability is wind, but it's very weak wind. All I can do is gently stir the trees by the window."
"When the leaves sway a little, you know the wind has come."
"I think I love the seaside. The sea breeze brushes your face, bringing the mood of the sea and the warmth of the sun. The sand doesn't hurt your feet, either. It's very comfortable."
"If there's nothing you want to do, let's write a book together. Maybe if we write down a story together, you won't feel lost anymore."
"Chuuya, don't drink so much all the time. Drinking is bad for your health."
"If you can't find hope, then become hope. If you use yourself as your anchor, can you still feel lost?"
"I'm getting angry. Oda, you're the only one of the four who hasn't written much yet. If this keeps up, we'll have to take turns keeping an eye on you."
"A toast to the Stray Dogs."
"The children are fine. Don't worry."
"Don't be sad. It would make me sad if you were sad for me."
"I'm just going away for a while. You'll have to walk the rest of the road on your own."
"Don't worry, I won't be far away. I'll become a gentle breeze and stay by your side."
After-story CG: [Still Missing You Here] (At the beginning, four hands raise their glasses and say together, "A toast to the Stray Dogs."
Then one hand dissolves into mist, and the remaining three raise their glasses and say together, "A toast to the Stray Dogs."
The orange-haired man lights a cigarette. A bottle of red wine sits beside him.
The three of them each go their separate ways.
In his office, Nakahara Chuuya puts out his cigarette.
"Idiot. Why didn't you tell me?"
"I could have taken care of it if you'd just told me."
The hand holding the letter trembles slightly. Drops of something warm fall onto it.
"...You were afraid I'd get dragged into it... How could you do that..."
At Sakaguchi Ango's place.
Sakaguchi Ango is bent over his desk, writing up the various information he needs to submit. When he finally stops, he sits blankly for a moment, then reaches for the unfinished book and adds a few lines. He stares dumbly at the dark sky beyond the gauze window, his gaze vacant, then opens the window.
The cold wind brushes his face, and he comes to his senses a little.
"What is this? The wind tonight doesn't feel like you at all." He rarely lets emotion creep into his muttering as he reaches out and closes the window.
Then he bends over his work again, as if nothing happened.
At Dazai Osamu's place.
After expertly getting under Kunikida Doppo's skin, Dazai Osamu heads out to drown himself, but stands staring blankly at the water for a long while.
He gently dips his hand into the water, then lifts it into the air and feels the wind moving, gradually drying the water from his skin.
He stands there, staring blankly for a while longer.
"...I don't really feel like drowning myself today."
"Maybe I'll hang myself instead."
At Oda Sakunosuke's place.
Oda Sakunosuke has moved his home to the seaside.
The sea breeze blows gently, carrying a faint salty smell. Sunlight gives the beach the distinctive scent of sand, and the breeze flowing in through the gauze window makes the room smell especially fresh and pleasant.
Oda sets down his pen, gazes at the sea for a while, and sighs.
"Maybe you really are here beside me."
"But sometimes I still feel a little lonely when I drink."
"Can you see the books I'm writing?"
"Three have been published already."
No one answers. There is only the sound of waves and the faint movement of the breeze.
"...The truth is, we all miss you very much."
After posting the warm, non-harem bad ending video from the first world, Yiling Luan successfully set off another round of wails from the forum users.
P.S. Romance and deep friendship go hand in hand. The pairing is Dao Zhizhu.
Theme: A well-used R card is no worse than an SSR.
