Tsukimi Tetsuya was a transmigrator in his previous life, and had some basic knowledge of Bungo Stray Dogs.
After joining the Port Mafia, he spent four or five years working under Dazai Osamu, learning nearly everything from him except his suicidal tendencies.
His will to live could probably be called the strongest of all his feelings, which was the exact opposite of his cheap mentor.
He had been watching the Mimic plot point approach quickly, thinking that, out of gratitude for the chance his mentor had given him, he would risk his own safety to save his best friend for his unreliable mentor. He never expected Dazai Osamu to stab him in the back and use him as a pawn, leaving him to die at Gide's hands.
And in the end, Oda Sakunosuke wasn't saved either.
Reborn, Tsukimi Tetsuya touches his temple, where Gide's bullet once struck, feeling the phantom pain that shouldn't exist, left behind in his soul. His eyes are dark and unreadable.
Ah, I see.
If my mentor was the first to betray our bond, then it's only fair if I betray him too, right?
I've already repaid half my life for the kindness of being recognized and the kindness of what I learned. There's still half a life left to pay. After that, I'll just get my revenge.
The boy with the ability "Chains" feels his power, strengthened by his rebirth, and smiles with pure malice.
Well then, Mentor.
You took half my life. My ability happens to be somewhat similar to yours, so... who cares whose hands the Arahabaki is in?
We're both dark-hearted people who want to use Arahabaki. It's first come, first served. Neither of us has the right to call the other shameless.
I'll take your dog with me for now. I'm not giving him back.
PS: The ability "Chains" (a coercive rule-based ability):
1. Within a 50-meter radius, the ability "Chains" connects to any ability user unconditionally. Ordinary people aren't immune either. (Even "No Longer Human" can't stop "Chains" from connecting. If anything, it's more like "Another" or "The Heart of a Stygian Abyss".) The chains are illusory and cannot be severed. Anyone connected by them becomes the ability user's substitute. All lethal and non-lethal damage is divided and transferred among everyone connected. When the damage is sufficient to kill, the ability user can choose to transfer all the injuries to one person, killing them, and continue using the remaining substitutes.
Once a connection is made within 50 meters, it remains forever unless the ability user ends it. Up to 100 people can be connected. When a substitute dies and a new slot opens, a new connection can be made.
When touched by "No Longer Human," the bound targets' abilities continue to work as usual, but no new substitute can be added to fill an open slot.
2. The ability user can bind one person as their trusted partner. They share life and death, fortune and misfortune, and share each other's abilities and life force. The ability user also provides them with "Chains," which can make an out-of-control ability controllable and free both of them from the control of other abilities (such as "The Heart of a Stygian Abyss," "No Longer Human," and "Another"). Requirements: the other person's trust in the ability user must be above 80%, and they must willingly agree to be bound.
If the other person's trust in the ability user drops below 20%, the bond automatically breaks and the bound person dies instantly.
Once bound, no one else can be bound unless the person already bound dies.
PPS: The protagonist is fundamentally a self-serving aesthete. Since he was assigned to Dazai Osamu's unit and had liked the character in his previous life, he was relatively indulgent toward Dazai. He's also grateful by nature, so he respected Dazai for teaching him many skills and psychological manipulation. In the end, out of gratitude, he planned to risk his pitiful half-life to try to save Oda Sakunosuke, only to be betrayed.
What's there to say after that? The protagonist values his own life above all else. He thinks that half a life is enough to repay a debt, but a whole life is out of the question. That's a grudge. So after being reborn, he decisively turns Dazai Osamu into an enemy, with a favorability rating of -1000 or worse. There is absolutely no chance of reconciliation.
The protagonist never told anyone about his ability. After being reborn, living a second life somehow doubled its power, increasing its strength enough to connect to "No Longer Human" or Arahabaki.
PPPPS: This story will probably not be very friendly to Dazai fans, so read with caution. If you don't like it, just click the X in the top right. Everyone will be happier that way. Thanks.
A character's psychology does not reflect the author's. Please read with a clear head.
PPPPS: The protagonist may want to establish an independent kingdom, following a path similar to Mori Ogai's, except that he demands not absolute loyalty to the Port Mafia from his subordinates, but absolute loyalty to him personally. ()
