From the start, I transmigrated into Lord of the Mysteries. To stay alive, and because I arrived three years before the True Creator, I hoped to get a head start and improve the chances of saving the world from the apocalypse. Zhao Qinghe Arthur Schuster did everything he could to leap into places that were dangerous, but not too dangerous, forcing his way into the Nightwatchers, who worshiped the Evernight Goddess. He fought against time with his life on the line. In less than five months, he had secretly advanced to Sequence 6, Faceless, using the Acting Method. He also forcibly latched onto the Knowledge Sage, risking near-madness in exchange for a wealth of knowledge. He followed the same violent Seer pathway as Zhou Mingrui Klein Moretti, who would transmigrate from the future.
He firmly believed that laying a little more groundwork could prevent some tragedies and make victory more likely. He had always thought he was probably just someone who had accidentally crossed through the world's barrier, while the protagonist was still Klein Moretti. So his goal was to do everything he could to reach Sequence 2 or higher before "Mr. Fool" arrived, then help and protect him as he grew, until Klein Moretti could step onto the stage and contend with the world.
After all, once things reached the level of angels, the odds of surviving weren't great. It was better to push most of his chips onto Zhou Mingrui. At least he was the kind-hearted protagonist and pillar of the world. If they succeeded, there was still a chance he could be resurrected, or at least die cleanly instead of being used after death.
The one thing he hadn't expected was that, while at Sequence 6, a collision between the Spirit World and the real world would send him tumbling into the Spirit World, where he would run into a Spirit World Plunderer who could be considered Sequence 3. He wasn't the type born with a cheat, so in the end he couldn't escape. He traded his life to take the Spirit World Plunderer down with him.
He died with regrets. He hadn't even seen the tide of the era.
He thought.
But the truth was that the world's barrier had collided again, and he had fallen into the world of Detective Conan.
By coincidence, though he had heard a little about it, he had never watched it. He didn't even know what Shinichi Kudo looked like.
The wounds on his body healed quickly. He straightened up and warily pressed his lips together, looking at the houses around him. They seemed unfamiliar, yet a little like the high-tech world he had once called home.
...Beware of illusions.
Kaito Kid had once again begun his heist. The Red Witch, Akako Koizumi, had tried to divine the future that day, but had gotten nothing at all, and her crystal ball had even exploded. Feeling uneasy, she followed him.
...Then, floating in the air, she locked eyes with Zhao Qinghe Arthur Schuster, who had just woken up on the rooftop of the twenty-first floor. He was propped halfway up, his wounds freshly healed and his mind still muddled.
Arthur: ...!
Arthur: She can fly + witch clothes = Demoness of Pleasure = the public could be in danger!
Arthur: Fuck, I'm about to demonstrate the classic move of sitting bolt upright from a deathbed dream!
I'm wide awake now!
He fought through his discomfort, raised his gun with effort, and fired three times at the witch in the air.
Akako Koizumi had no time to react. The bullets were already right in front of her before she sensed the overwhelming killing intent.
But the bullets seemed to hold some mysterious power, pinning her in place. Her magic was as weak as an insect trying to topple a tree compared to the power contained in those bullets. All she could do was take the hit.
The next moment, she was carried higher into the sky, barely dodging all three shots.
Kaito Kid had arrived.
"Do you know who she is?!" He could tell at a glance that the man who had saved her was ordinary. He was afraid the witch might take the man hostage, and he'd confirmed the man was ordinary and genuinely conscious, so he couldn't simply shoot. "She's a witch!"
"...Of course I know." Kaito Kid, aka Kaito Kuroba, couldn't make much sense of what the other man was saying. He assumed the man was some sort of witch hunter who hated evil, so he lifted the corners of his mouth and managed to maintain his poker face. Holding Akako Koizumi in his arms in midair, he did his best to look unruffled and casually pushed up his monocle. "But she hasn't committed any crimes..."
He hadn't finished speaking when he froze. He saw the half-propped man across from him suddenly widen his eyes after Kaito pushed up the monocle over his right eye. The man blurted out a phrase Kaito couldn't understand, though its sound made it easy to guess he was shouting, "Amon!" Then the man quickly spun the cylinder of his old-fashioned Victorian-style revolver and fired at him with the desperation of someone risking everything.
But in this world, Kaito Kid was the child of fate.
Luck was unreasonable. So, for some inexplicable reason, even though the bullet had locked onto him with overwhelming force, he still shifted one centimeter to the left.
The instant the bullet pierced the center of his chest, he saw what was in the man's eyes.
Those black eyes held embers, dying flames, and a fiercely burning, desperate hope. They held the madness of someone fighting with every last breath, and the determination to drag him to hell even if he had to go there himself. There was also a kind of obsessive protectiveness.
...Who was he trying to protect?
But the next moment, he couldn't keep thinking about it. It really hurt.
As the excruciating pain hit, an absurd thought popped into his head.
That man wanted to kill him just because he had pushed up his monocle.
Later, after the misunderstanding was cleared up and Arthur switched to the Japanese he had once learned:
"Sorry, I didn't realize." Arthur was mortified. "I'm really sorry!"
"It's fine. But I'm not one of those Demonesses of Pleasure. I'm a proper Red Witch." Akako Koizumi lifted her chin proudly.
"That's true..." Arthur shook his head, clearly thinking he had acted rashly. "Although your attack style is a little strange, in terms of overall combat power and strength, you don't come close to a Demoness of Pleasure. You need a lot of preparation beforehand, and your use of magic is heavily restricted. You're not even as strong as a Witch."
"..." A vein popped on Akako Koizumi's forehead.
Though she had realized from that one sentence that they were talking about entirely different things, she was still furious at being underestimated.
"It's okay. After all, you healed me." Seeing that they seemed about to start arguing again, Kaito Kuroba hurried to change the subject. He was worried that if they got into a fight, Akako Koizumi would lose and end up bleeding to death on the spot. "But why did you try to shoot me back then?"
"..." This time, Arthur was silent for a long while. "Sorry. I thought you were an incarnation of Amon."
Kaito Kuroba: ...
Kaito Kuroba: ???
"So if I really had been..." Kaito Kuroba ventured.
"Then I'd have used every last card I had and died trying to take you down." Arthur was utterly decisive.
Kaito Kuroba: ...
Kaito Kuroba: "Who is this guy you're talking about, anyway? Why are you so afraid of him?"
The man had nearly killed him despite being in such bad shape. What could he possibly be afraid of?
"You wouldn't understand." Arthur shook his head. "If you don't take Amon out right away, it turns into a disaster on the scale of a divine war, or worse. The amount of Amon in the air will go up everywhere."
Kaito Kuroba: ...
Kaito Kuroba: ...I-is he a chuunibyou?
P.S. This is hilarious. The original idea was simply that Kaito Kid pushes up his glasses, the protagonist's eyes go wide, and he opens fire. Don't ask, it's Amon PTSD.
P.P.S. The protagonist will return to the world of Lord of the Mysteries later on. The world of Detective Conan is a buffer zone. Amon won't crawl through the internet, so don't worry.
P.P.P.S. The extra story will probably follow the protagonist watching the events of Detective Conan for a while after he transmigrates, from the time before he comes to their world to after he leaves. It'll properly explain what "mystery" means.
However, their world's coordinates are well hidden, and its setting is low-magic, so there won't be any danger.
