What would happen if you suddenly transmigrated into Mori Ogai halfway through your life?
Someone's answer: Thanks for the invite. I'm only seventeen, and my memories aren't extensive or vivid enough to suppress the memories forced into this body, so... I empathized with him completely.
So, during the Battle of Tsushima, Mori Ogai, half red and half black: We have to win. I'll find a way to get every deadweight back home out of the way in the short term, or keep them too busy to interfere. As for Akiko...
Mori Ogai looked tenderly at the girl he had once taught to read. "You know what you're worth."
"Your ability is crucial."
"If we don't use it, a lot of people will die soon."
"If it's for the country, then even if we have to go to hell, we have to keep this war going."
He cocked the gun trembling in Akiko's hands and pointed it at himself. "Or would you like to treat me first? I'm a little tired, too."
"Please treat him."
"Even if it breaks him!" Yosano Akiko cried.
"Yes, even if it breaks him."
"...Yes!" After a long silence, Yosano Akiko finally answered through her tears.
Even so, because the plot's background demanded it, the war was still lost.
To protect himself, Mori Ogai used the many connections he'd cultivated to open an underground clinic.
The difference was that, for some reason, Akiko chose to stay by his side.
"It's not because I care about you! It's just that if you died, the night really would become endless, wouldn't it? The people at the top never do anything..." Yosano Akiko gritted her teeth as she looked at him, her eyes filled with admiration, respect, and hatred for the man who had once guided her into medicine. "You promised you'd protect Yokohama, didn't you?"
"...Of course. Even if it's a difficult path, even if I might lose my life."
"After all, my lover is this city."
He smiled and opened his arms to the wind in the night sky.
"If I don't try, where am I supposed to wait for dawn?"
PS: This is Mori Ogai, half red and half black, Niu Kulu, seemingly gentler but fundamentally unchanged apart from being a little redder, an optimal-solution AI with a scummy, alluring charm. His soul is that of a three-dimensional high school sophomore science-and-engineering nerd, and he has taken over the body of a two-dimensional Mori who died unexpectedly.
PPS: This Niu Kulu Mori once took a job at a technical college for three months just to pick up a little diamond. He came back with a Geto Suguru who had found the right ideals and was utterly devoted to him. He nearly lured Gojo Satoru and Ieiri Shoko away, too. If the Gojo family and the jujutsu world hadn't refused to let them go, all three would have come back with him.
PPPS: Since this Mori knows the plot, he never targeted Oda Sakunosuke. He only hired him as a bodyguard, so Dazai didn't defect either. He also half-recruited Sakaguchi Ango from the Special Division for Unusual Powers, turning him into a triple agent who'd switched over to a neutral side. (Lol.)
PPPPPS: This Mori saved Gin and Vermouth more than once. Vermouth has already been successfully turned, and he gets along quite well with Gin, too.
5PS: There are lots of one-sided attachments, including teacher-student bonds, loyalty, trust, being someone's guide, light, life's guiding star, and choosing one another. Their feelings run so deep that calling it love would sound trite, but the protagonist only wants to make Yokohama a better place and has no interest in anything else.
Theme: It can't be helped. My lover is Yokohama.
