Jiang Hengzhou first met Shu Yue outside a convenience store.
It was raining. At the urging of her mother and friends, Jiang Hengzhou offered to bring Shu Yue an umbrella.
She didn't even look at him. Head lowered, she said nothing and ran off as if he were the plague.
Jiang Hengzhou watched her petite figure with indifference and gave a faint scoff.
The second time he saw Shu Yue was at a coffee shop.
He was there to explain on his buddy's behalf why he'd stood her up at the last minute. As it happened, Shu Yue was the girl he'd stood up.
She arrived dressed for the occasion, in a floral skirt. With gentle eyes, she secretly sized him up for a long moment before approaching and asking softly, "Excuse me... are you Heng?"
"Yeah." Jiang Hengzhou glanced at her nervous little fidget and remembered what had happened last time. He pressed his tongue to the roof of his mouth, then changed his mind about the explanation he'd been about to give.
"Of course I am."
But not the Heng you were sponsoring. I'm Jiang Hengzhou, the guy you ran away from at first sight.
Shu Yue believed him, and Jiang Hengzhou kept up the lie for quite some time.
He was too guilty to come clean about that cruel little joke, even after they started dating.
It came up again at a birthday party.
Dressed in a bespoke suit and wearing a luxury watch, the young man raised his glass with effortless poise, chatting with the guests as he made his way around the birthday party for the youngest son of the Jiang family.
A guest told Shu Yue, "That's the Jiang family's youngest son, Jiang Hengzhou."
Realizing she'd been played, Shu Yue's eyes reddened with anger.
Ever since Shu Yue was little, her father had taught her, "We can't be like that Jiang family. Every last one of them is full of bad intentions."
Shu Yue hadn't believed him before. Now she understood.
Her dad was right.
The Jiang family really were smooth talkers.
They could never be trusted.
The day after his birthday, Jiang Hengzhou was blocked by his girlfriend and left with a blunt breakup text. It hit him like a bolt from the blue.
The usually confident, composed young man stood outside her apartment looking panicked, knocking pitifully on the door. "Little Moon, if you don't let me in, I'll really be homeless."
Shu Yue, who was usually gentle and easygoing, took him off her block list.
She replied with a single symbol.
"."
Jiang Hengzhou immediately typed out a long message, sincerely admitting his mistake and begging for forgiveness. He hit send
"You have been blocked by the recipient."
When Jiang's father found out his son had won over the daughter of his family's rival, he was smug about it for a long time.
Then he heard his son was planning to marry into her family for love.
He wanted to break the boy's legs!
