Prey

Queen x Cardinal / Girl Hunter x Vampire Elder, Weibo: @Xiao Ling Xing Li

[Vampires are born with a crystal. Whoever obtains it becomes its master.]

Helms met a girl at a ball.

She was innocent and lost, and the sight of her fair neck made his fangs emerge without restraint.

The delicious girl became the vampires' prey, just as anyone would have expected.

But after he'd had his fill, Helms realized his crystal was gone.

The girl toyed with it carelessly, making her unmistakably his master.

She gave him a sidelong look. "You should kneel and kiss the back of my hand."

Helms replied, "I never kneel to anyone of low birth."

He was the kingdom's cardinal, second only to The Outcast and above everyone else. Only the queen, who had never shown herself, stood above him.

Later, the queen made her first appearance at a religious ceremony. Dignified and graceful, beautiful and poised, she wore a ruby crown that gleamed in the sunlight, silently proclaiming her power and status.

The girl walked up to Helms, lifted her chin, and stamped her foot. "Kneel."

The people watched as the cardinal, who had never bowed his head, dropped to one knee and kissed the back of the queen's hand.

Little did they know that there was a mark on the back of the queen's hand. Any vampire who touched it would be sealed away.
