The Sound of Wind and Rain at Night

(This story is entirely fictional and has no connection to reality or historical figures. Please don't try to match it to real people.)

Puyi is installed as a puppet ruler in the newly founded Manchukuo, while the remnants of the Qing nobility still linger.

After soaking in cosmetics, powder, and tobacco, how much of a person's true nature remains?

1936. Huaguo is battered by wind and rain.

An unprecedented enemy is closing in on the nation's borders, yet countless people rush headlong into the Paris of the Far East, losing themselves in its decadent music, which numbs pain and confusion. But some people, regardless of their opposing identities, remain true to the vows in their hearts, like moths flying into a flame, unafraid to die.

Someone asks: In this age, at once the most prosperous and the most doomed, can we still hold fast to the dreams in our hearts?

Why not: I think we can, and so does my partner.

Fu Wenshan: Until death do us part.

Warning: 1. A former military officer turned pseudo-literati underground Party member × a Kuomintang military secret agent who came from Whampoa. No transmigration. The male lead had a past relationship.

2. This is my first original story set in the Republican era. I'll get stuck, stuck, stuck, stuck, and may go a long time without updating (sobs).

3. No bad-faith comments or nitpicking. Writing doesn't improve without practice. Anyone insulting the author or picking a fight, get off my happy planet already. I'm begging you on my knees!

4. This story is for my classmate, Miss Tongtong. It was a birthday fic for her last year, and it's been sitting on Jinjiang slowly gaining value for almost a year.

5. Thanks to Teacher Muqing for providing the first few lines of the blurb.
