The Palace Window

With the Empress Dowager's strong recommendation, Gao Yuting ascended to the throne as empress, only to be left alone in her chambers.

During one visit to pay her respects, she accidentally brushed against Empress Dowager Yu Xinyao. An unfamiliar feeling stirred in her heart, and she instinctively drew away. Suspicious, the empress dowager went to Qianqing Palace herself and overheard Gao Yuting talking with a palace maid.

“Her Majesty keeps avoiding the empress dowager. What are we going to do?”

“Perhaps not seeing her is the best choice.”

“Your Majesty, people will accuse you of being unfilial.”

“If I see the empress dowager, I'm afraid I'll do something even more inappropriate...”

Yu Xinyao walked in, dismissed everyone, and asked, “Something even more inappropriate? Do tell. Why are you avoiding me?” After hesitating, Gao Yuting answered honestly, “I'm afraid to see you.” Yu Xinyao frowned and said earnestly, “Yuer, why should we stand on ceremony with each other? Tell me what's on your mind.”
