Synopsis
Song Jiayu and Huo Ran have been at war in the Huo family for ten years.
They fought over the inheritance, their place in the family, and their father's small, hypocritical scraps of affection. To outsiders, they were enemies who couldn't coexist, and everyone waited to see them destroy each other. Only Huo Ran knew that every confrontation was just a way to hide her ill-timed softness... and even more ill-timed favoritism.
They were beasts deliberately locked in the same cage, goaded against each other, compared, and used as pieces on a board to wear one another down. For ten years, everyone thought they would keep tearing at each other's throats until one of them stopped breathing.
A fire set on purpose burned through every disguise.
As the collapsing building came down, Huo Ran pushed Song Jiayu out and took the entire sea of flames upon herself. One night amid the ruins, covered in wounds. When the others dug her out of the rubble, she was on the verge of death, still clutching an iron box to her chest. Inside was all the evidence of Song Jiayu's mother's ancestral estate, altered and stolen.
At her bedside, she was barely able to speak, but smiled as she said her final words: "Song Jiayu, live well from now on. I might not be able to stay with you."
Later, Song Jiayu opened her diary.
The first page held only one line, hidden behind ten years of silence: "Song Jiayu, I think I've fallen for you."
It turned out that their ten years of confrontation had all been a silent act of devotion. Every clash had been a deep love they couldn't bring themselves to confess.
On the thirty-seventh day of Huo Ran's coma,
Song Jiayu held her cold fingertips, her voice breaking apart. "Huo Ran, please wake up. From now on, I'll do whatever you say. The inheritance is yours, the Huo family is yours..."
She rested her forehead against that hand, devoid of warmth, while her tears burned between its icy fingers.
"And I'm yours too."
The flat line on the monitor gave a tiny leap, tracing a faint curve. Huo Ran's eyelashes trembled, and her weak voice held its usual exasperation. "Song Jiayu... you're still so noisy."
Song Jiayu threw herself forward and hugged her tight, tears soaking the collar of her hospital gown. Huo Ran coughed twice as she was squeezed, but smiled and laid a hand on the back of Song Jiayu's head. "Trying to murder your big sister? I can barely breathe."
Once enemies, now each other's destination.
They tore apart the false cage of their wealthy family and stood side by side from then on. Amid the ashes, all that remained was their joined hands and a light that had finally found its way in.
