From Then On, I Dared Not Face Guanyin

[Please be sure to read the content warnings!!!! Comments were turned off because arguments over the category got too heated. The novel has now been recategorized under derivative fiction, no romance, plus a channel, in accordance with the new rules.] Fuyin was saved by the Creator at the brink of death. In return, he had to play Guanyin, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, who saves all beings in derivative worlds. His branch, South Sea Purple Bamboo Grove Derivative Branch 001, connected to countless worlds from books. He was the only revered Guanyin in all those worlds. To attain eternal life and gain a body ahead of time, he had to accumulate enough merit in these worlds, allowing Fuyin to attain the Great Way. Once, he had been an actor, playing a thousand different faces. Now, in the name of Guanyin in these derivative worlds, he manifested in myriad forms. With a pure-water vase in hand, he was serene and compassionate, full of pity for all living beings. Yet his gaze swept over the world, cool and calm, untouched by the slightest ripple. He saved people, spread the Dharma, and his followers all took refuge in him. In the end, his body was cleansed and his Great Way perfected. Before all living beings, he was a radiant moon above the clouds, untouched by the mortal world, a breathtaking figure in the heavens. The moon hangs high in the sky, beyond anyone’s reach. It shines its warm, pure light equally on everyone, yet no one can ever pluck it down. [How could anyone be so breathtaking? From then on, I could never look upon Guanyin again.] PS1: The protagonist has no romantic pairing! Before being reborn, the protagonist was male. After being reborn, he plays Guanyin in derivative worlds, while his true body is explicitly male. He takes the role seriously, with no romance and no interest in sex. A male supporting character has an unrequited crush on him, that’s all. So I changed the point-of-view category to unspecified. Later, the main plot requires him to play Guanyin in a female form, but that only lasts two or three chapters and will be marked in the chapter titles beforehand. During that time, no one will have an unrequited crush on the protagonist. PS2: This is a derivative work based on the original novels, focused on redemption, not realism. The protagonist is the most powerful character in this story and will travel through multiple worlds, including Journey to the West, Legend of the White Snake, Investiture of the Gods, and Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio. [Chapters 19–23 cover the Four Sages Testing Zen Heart, with the protagonist using a female secret identity.] PS3: The story is a slow burn, and the author is a stickler for details. There are lots of descriptions of the protagonist’s appearance. Since he has the special nature of Guanyin, beings across the three realms will like, respect, and admire him. After all, who could fail to love Guanyin? That love includes familial and platonic affection, as well as a few unrequited crushes. But he has no romantic pairing. He only wants to save people from suffering and accrue merit. PS4: Although the protagonist has no romance, when I describe how other people think and feel about him, the emotional language may sometimes be quite subtle. For reference, look at the writing style in the first half of Chapter One. (The character who appears there is not right in the head, so don’t judge him by ordinary standards.) PS5: If you’ve read all of this and are still interested, welcome aboard. If not, please click away. And to reiterate, this is derivative fiction, derivative fiction! This is my version of Guanyin. Please don’t conflate it with reality!
