After I Came Out, My Best Friend Came Looking for Me

[Complete] [Coming Soon: I Became a Background Character in Detective Conan. Blurb below. Thanks for your support.] To find something that could sustain her Honmaru, Gojou Kiyoshi, who had grown up there, traveled to Heian-kyo a thousand years ago, when spiritual energy was abundant. Wearing the guise of someone frail and harmless, he successfully infiltrated Heian-kyo. He got on good terms with the great onmyoji, became fast friends with the young master of the Gojou clan, and drank and caroused with the demon king of Oeyama. Gojou Kiyoshi: What bad intentions could I possibly have? In everyone else's eyes, Gojou Kiyoshi was fair and beautiful, loved his drink, and though he was rather carefree, was still a friend worth making. Then one day, the barrier around Kyoto's ley lines was broken, and the Yamata no Orochi stirred. Everyone responsible for maintaining peace in Kyoto hurried to the seal, only to find someone they never expected to see there. A black-haired young man stood backlit at the seal, smiling as he greeted them. In his hand was a piece of the ley line, radiating astonishing spiritual energy. Everyone, unable to understand why he was there: ...? Then they found out. He had broken the barrier around the ley lines, and he had released the Yamata no Orochi. Everyone: ...Damn it. Gojou Kiyoshi never imagined that after pulling a prank before he left, he would run into the people he'd tricked one by one in the modern world a thousand years later. The great onmyoji had a procession of a hundred demons at his back, with divine generals standing tall. The strongest Gojou, now possessed of memories from his past life, lowered his blindfold. The demon king of Oeyama and his host of monsters blocked the way out. Gojou Kiyoshi: ...If I said you have the wrong person, would you believe me? Everyone: What do you think? #Don't ask. I regret everything# #I shouldn't have pulled that prank# #Don't get too cocky, or you'll crash and burn# Reader's Notes: 1. Lots of author-created details. The story later features a modern-day comeuppance. 2. The protagonist is a ham with a somewhat nasty personality. 3. A feel-good power fantasy with dead logic, just for a laugh. Don't take it too seriously. 4. Out-of-character behavior is the norm. I Became a Background Character in Detective Conan Blurb: While eating at a restaurant, Ueno Akimi suddenly saw a scene flash through his mind. In it, he stood among several masked men with a gun pointed at his head. After negotiations with the police failed, he became the first hostage to be killed. Ueno Akimi: ...? A voice told him he was a background character in a certain mystery anime, liable to get dragged into all kinds of shootings, explosions, kidnappings, and criminal cases at any moment. In five minutes, he would die at the hands of the robbers. There was only one way to survive: join the anime's main plot, have more moments in the spotlight, and become a popular character. To stay alive, Ueno Akimi went home and immediately changed his plans to apply to the police academy, hoping that the state would train his future self to take on ten people at once. Join the main plot? As if! Who'd want to do something that exhausting? Among this year's police academy recruits, one person stood out. He always wore a gloomy expression, would lie down rather than sit, and the moment someone called for a break during training, he'd flop right onto the ground. Just as everyone wondered how someone like him had passed the physical exam, he came first in his class on the end-of-month test. A new character in the police academy group's bonus chapter set off a lively discussion on a manga forum. [Akimi really kills me. He's been at the academy for half a year and still can't remember his classmates' faces.] [Rei, who missed first place by one point: I'll beat you next time! Gloomy Akimi: ...Huh? Oh, okay. Sorry, who are you?] [Going by this plot, will Akimi join the five-person group as their sixth member and enter the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department with them?] [Akimi: Don't come near me.] [The five-person group thinks that after going through life and death together so many times, they're already friends with Akimi. Meanwhile, Akimi's actually thinking: ...Who is this again? What's the name of the one beside him? Why is that blond guy glaring at me again? Ugh, what a pain.] [LOL, I can picture it.] Ueno Akimi, who had firmly rejected the main plot, had no idea that he was gradually moving beyond his background-character status. During his time at the academy, he never wasted a single bit of energy outside of training. During one incident, he and his classmates accidentally infiltrated an underground organization and became undercover agents, staying there for several years. One day, he received a special order: the organization wanted him to investigate whether a certain high school detective who had gone missing was still alive. Ueno Akimi, who had only remembered the protagonist's name from the entire plot, stared at the report about a guy named Rolling Washing Machine and fell silent. Theme: Life is always full of surprises.
