*The revision of this old novel from 2020 is complete. It is expected to enter its final paid chapters starting with Chapter 21 on August 3. A serious drama about redeeming morally gray protagonists, with an old-school feel. My profile also has lots of completed novels and upcoming stories!
[Serious Drama Blurb]
Even if your life is ruined by a cruel twist of fate, you must give it everything you've got, struggle through the pain, and keep moving toward the light.
Ke Yusheng doesn't consider himself a good person. After all, even his name was stolen, and it came with blood on it.
But he never wants to become a bad person. The suffering he went through shouldn't happen to anyone else.
Luckily, now he can hide in the online world, roaming through it as a hero who fights for justice.
Xie Jinhua spent ten years coming to terms with himself.
He grew up in a tangled vortex, nurtured by the love of the people who sponsored him and the volunteers who helped him. Yet just as he glimpsed a ray of light, he was trapped by crime, unable to become a police officer for the rest of his life.
He faces the person in the mirror behind a false identity, atoning by destroying his own health, happiness, and capacity to love.
Until they saw each other.
It began with an accidental kiss while drunk. Through one chance encounter after another, and the resolution of one case after another, their love grew and spread.
As they investigated the cases, the demons in their hearts began to fade. A vicious human trafficker paid for his crimes, and years of hidden evil were brought to light. This land, too, would bloom with new life because of them.
They still had each other, and they still had family and friends in common, people who would share their hopes for the future and walk alongside them as they faced the world as their true selves.
Having seen evil, they yearn for the light.
Carrying the darkness, my heart turns toward the sun.
[Notes]
- Main couple: a ten-year age gap, switch BL pairing. The irreverent gray-hat hacker Ke Yusheng × the unofficial cross-dressing consultant Xie Jinhua. There are a few secondary couples: the parents, Xie Chen × Jiang Jialuo, along with a few supporting-character colleagues and friends in BG and GL pairings.
- Not a conventional police procedural. The cases focus on investigations and deduction, with a firm stance against crime. The main couple continually atones through their actions. Topics include human trafficking, public disturbances, cybercrime, and more.
- This early novel was written before I had a publishing contract, and includes some wordiness, preaching, darkness, literary touches, awkwardness, and supernatural elements. If these bother you, feel free to skip it. My later works are more fun! (I've planted lots of trees!)
- Pirated copies have been everywhere for ages, but I still recommend reading the revised official version. It's a better reading experience and includes new bonus chapters.
Timeline:
The main story was completed on April 15, 2021. The afterword can be found in “Collected Writing Notes.”
On June 2, 2024, I added character profiles for the first time. I drew them myself back then. I really have always loved them. They left such a deep impression on me.
On July 26, 2026, I finished adjusting the main text's formatting and making minor edits. I kept its old-fashioned flavor and plot, with only small corrections.
Theme: We all guard the light in the darkness.
We all know to be grateful. The author said: They protect us, and we should also protect them. I feel particularly right, and respecting the confidentiality of their profession is only what we can do.
I feel that the writing style is very sophisticated. The author must have written a lot of articles. I am curious why no one has read it. Although it is not updated every day, the writing style is also here.
Author, your cover is so thunderous to me (the ghost-fire boy's sense of déjà vu + distorted filter), my brain really sublimates, twists, crawls, and explodes on the spot. I climbed into the comment area and wanted to shout: Whose cover has this perspective? Are you serious, author of 50/50 Figure? Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, my eyes!
Congratulations to Teacher Yun for being on the list [Spreading Flowers] I didn't expect to see a big one 🐰 on the list today.
On March 21, 2026, the human trafficker Aunt Mei was arrested. I am filled with emotion when I think of the prototype character I wrote about in this article several years ago. I wish there would be no crutches in the world.
... Suddenly it's 521. I'm thinking about the scene of their anniversary... [Looking at the Sky] Although this is the final article, the CP is forever, and it's a little thrilling. Emmmm - the author who was so drunk that he was dizzy was in agitated mood (.)
Treasure article. I don't know if I am honored to get a big wb.
When people interact with each other, the most indispensable thing is respect.
Happy New Year everyone! Continue writing in the Year of the Ox! (Eh?)
