Delicate Yet Dignified

A newly favored courtier of the emperor discovers a bizarre rumor spreading through the palace: the little emperor has survived repeated assassination attempts because he practices a strange martial art. This divine art reshapes the meridians and channels. It's perfect in every way, except for one thing. The deeper one practices, the more one has to endure beatings. Pressure points, joints, muscles: one must be beaten until the pain is unbearable to advance to the next level. The favored courtier enters the palace and offers the little emperor a suggestion. "Your Majesty, if you wish to practice this divine art, would you like me to lend a hand?" The little emperor says gravely, "I do need a punching bag." The courtier replies without hesitation, "I can do that for you." The emperor flies into a rage. "You agreed so readily. Do you have no regard for me at all!?" The courtier drops to his knees. "I didn't, Your Majesty. I didn't." The emperor grows even angrier. "You keep saying you want to help me, yet you give up so easily. Do you have no sincerity at all!?" The courtier: "..." The courtier: "Your Majesty, just tell me what you want me to do to you." The emperor says gravely, "Now is the time to prove your loyalty." The courtier: "...?" The emperor says earnestly, "Pick up the fire poker by the door and give me a good beating!" The courtier: "...!!??" From then on, the favored courtier helps the emperor practice his martial arts, beating the Son of Heaven every day and rising to the pinnacle of life.
