For my records. Most are rated above four stars, but for personal reasons I don't like giving five stars.
Comfort Reads to Stock Up On
Stories of the times our paths crossed. Hope to meet you again when we stock up on reads this cozy winter.
Come Get Some Reheated Leftovers, Ladies!
Underrated stories, all purely subjective. Mostly BL.
Maybe You'd Enjoy Historical BL Too
Includes cultivation and fantasy elements. Long reviews don’t mean I’m especially invested in the book; I just happened to read and review it recently. The short reviews are for books I read a while ago, so I don’t remember the plots very well.
Underrated Hidden Gems with Fewer Than 10,000 Favorites
Every book on this list is one I've read. Each has something excellent about its writing, plot, or themes, but for various reasons, these are obscure stories with fewer than ten thousand reads.
Free-Read Treasure Hunt
Original free novels, eclectic tastes with a preference for bottom-centric stories. Just for me.
Top-Led Stories I Keep Coming Back To
Something must have upset someone about my old list; I can’t see the messages anymore... Still, disclaimers apply: I’m not into tops, bottoms, or couples. Product fans who love pretty boys are public enemy number one across all three camps. Writing skill comes above everything.
BL Court Politics
The ruler-and-minister pairing
Good BL Stories I've Read
Omnivorous, no triggers
Organizing My Fully Purchased Books
Mostly BL, with some no-CP stories mixed in. Very occasionally there may be BG or GL. I'm a flexible reader, and I'll clearly mark free stories.
Top-Quality Free Reads
Digging up those hidden gems that are free to read, featuring two male leads
A Few Carefully Curated Male-Lead Romance Picks
A heads-up: this list is heavy on older works. I went through my collection and narrowed it down again. Some may not suit readers who favor the gong, most are good for readers who are attached to the protagonist, and a few are for fans of dark, melodramatic angst.
Bottom-Centric Stories I’ve Read, Where the Bottom Isn’t Stronger Than the Top
Not recommendations, just a record of all the stories with adored bottom characters I’ve read. Very subjective and contains spoilers, so read with caution. There are more in the comments below. I gave them four stars because the system wouldn’t let me submit five.
Historical BL with Excellent Writing
I lean toward historical danmei with a more understated narrative style. The protagonists' appeal comes from the writing, not just their character setup. Please recommend similar stories in the comments, and check out my book-hunting list too.
Stories with Emperors as the Bottom
I like stories with an emperor as the shou. The shou-over-gong dynamic is the most delicious.
Recommend Some Obscure Books with Interesting Settings
No warnings from me. I'll read pretty much anything, so I hope you find something you like and enjoy it.
A Picky Reader’s Eclectic List (Bottom to Top)
I’m picky, but luckily I enjoy all kinds of things, so I won’t starve for lack of something to read. All orientations are welcome. Everything except the five-star books comes with plenty of commentary and complaints.
Junchenwen
A few ruler-and-subject pairings, including both original works and fan derivatives.
Top Picks for Shou Leads
That’s so pitiful?
I'll Read Anything for a Balanced Diet (Free Stories)
Mostly danmei. Often harsh. 4.5 stars and up: highly recommended. 3.8–4.4: worth a read. 3.0–3.7: good for passing the time. Anything lower: avoid.
Historical Danmei: Relationship-Focused Drama (Mostly Short Stories)
Some are older works, but the plots and emotional depth are both excellent. Jiefa and Gongzi Huanxi are a must. Wu Se Jie isn’t on JJ. I’ve just saved some authors’ representative works.
Personal Reading Log [Danmei], Mostly Fantasy and Historical Settings
I read both top- and bottom-perspective stories, though lately I lean toward top-perspective. I'm picky about writing style and prefer a restrained, artsy feel. I read for the couples, so I skip stories with weak or too little romance. I don't care about whether the characters are virgins.
Fantasy, Historical, BL
Imaginative, out-of-the-box stories
Jiu's Historical Danmei Recommendations: Court Politics and Palace Intrigue
Made to suit my own tastes, so it's very subjective

So did the sixty-year-old calamity go to Changning?
The familiarity of ancient novels. Although the plot has ups and downs and is a bit bloody, after the ups and downs, only a touch of peace and warmth are left. It can be said to be a very typical perfect novel. Moreover, from my wife's words, I feel like I have returned to the original Internet writing period ten years ago. Although the words are simple, they are full of meaning. I like it very much.
Chapter 12 Extra Chang Ning's 9th Year The children in the alley of Rong Hua's house all like to run to Blind Man Liu. Blind man Liu lives in an alley with his wife and children. He is a storyteller, tells people's fortunes, and helps at weddings and weddings. He practiced storytelling at home, and the neighborhood kids went to listen. He didn't ask for any money and even gave me melon seeds to eat. But Rong Hua didn't like to go, and he felt disgusted when he went there once in a while. Blind Liu's storyteller has no new ideas, and is far less exciting and exciting than the master storyteller at Lao Fuyu Teahouse. Listening to Blind Liu telling stories, Rong Hua might as well read the story himself. Although he is only seven years old, he can already hold a book and read to his mother. Rong Hua Niang was in poor health and often stayed in bed to recuperate. After Rong Hua left school, he served his mother soup and medicine. That day, after his mother drank the medicine, she suddenly said: "Tell your father to invite Mr. Liu here." When it was time to hold the lamp, Blind Man Liu came. He is blind and can move more quickly than ordinary people in the dark. When we arrived at Rong's house, we drank tea first, and Rong Hua's father explained the reason. It turned out that Rong Hua's mother wanted Blind Liu to do something for Rong Hua. She was afraid that she wouldn't be able to see Rong Hua's future, so she wanted to seek peace of mind. Blind Liu's fortune-telling method is to touch the bones. Rong Hua struggled twice, and his father shouted: "Don't move!" His mother looked at him earnestly, and Rong Hua had no choice but to stop resisting. After a while, Blind Liu said: "This child will have three great tribulations in his life. He will have to deal with one before he is ten years old, and he will have to deal with one when he is twenty. The last one will be when he is sixty years old." When other people tell fortunes, they have to agree first. Blind Liu said it was not good when he came up. Father Rong Hua frowned and said, "What kind of disaster is it?" Blind Liu refused to say anything. Rong Huaniang said: "I understand." This first calamity is probably the loss of her mother. Father Rong Hua sighed. Blind Liu said again: "Except for these three calamities, this child's life can be considered smooth and worry-free." What followed was an endless stream of good words, saying that Rong Hua would be rich and prosperous throughout his life, and that generations of the Rong family would rely on him to honor their ancestors. After hearing this, Rong Hua Niang's gray face became radiant. She smiled and gave the prepared red envelope to Blind Man Liu. Rong Hua's father was also very happy after hearing this, but he was half-convinced. He himself was just copying documents in the yamen and never thought that his son could be a high official. According to Blind Liu, he didn't believe it that Rong Hua could be a court official. Blind Liu vowed: "We are all neighbors. Hey, wait for ten or fifteen years and see if what I say is accurate. If you don't, I will compensate you ten taels of silver!" Ten taels of silver is a lot of money. Rong Hua's father suddenly felt relieved after receiving such a guarantee. Rong Hua's father left Blind Liu to drink again. The two of them exchanged glasses, and Rong Hua sat on one side, eating appetizers and listening to the nonsense of the two gentlemen. Blind Liu talked about the major events in Sijiu City.
Oh, it's so beautiful. It's actually from 2014. I really miss that time when the Internet literary world was really in full bloom.
I used to never understand why the emperor could feel so comfortable when he was subordinate to others. Later, after reading another author's writing, I realized that this is the right of the clouds in the sky but the water in the bottle.
When I read this article, I really realized what it means. Every meaty scene in the article has its own special meaning, which promotes the plot, emotions, and ideas. It's a pity that they were severely punished and changed beyond recognition.
How do I remember that I still watched it last time? Why can't I watch it today?
My roommate read this article in the middle of the night and cried like a wolf at the beginning. I asked her what was wrong, and she said that she saw an article in which the emperor was already in his 80s, had gray hair on his temples, and asked the eunuch to stuff a fake penis into his anus. I was shocked at the time, and ran over to read the article out of curiosity. The result was unexpectedly good-looking! The author describes the changes in emotional trends very delicately, which makes people feel like they are still unfinished after reading the ending... But hahaha, I made the mistake of fake JJ. How many girls were deceived at the beginning, hahahahaha 233
The last Q&A was so cute. I hope Rong Hua and His Majesty will be together for a long time.
I like short and medium stories better than long stories
