Tales of Country Plants and Trees

Across the countryside of China grow countless plants and flowers that never make it onto the list of the ten most famous flowers. Hibiscus blooms by day and falls by night beside farmyard fences, wisteria drapes a corridor in purple clouds, hollyhocks stand quietly by courtyard walls, and hostas wait for the moonlight to release their delicate fragrance.

From irises dancing by streams and Chinese violet cress spreading like mist across hillsides, to dandelions sending their seeds flying across the fields and trumpet vines climbing walls in a blaze of bloom, to beautybushes flowering profusely by hedges, every plant has its own season and character.

This is not a record of rare flowers in grand gardens, but of the native plants and flowers growing along field ridges, at the foot of walls, beneath trees, and beside streams. It captures their habits and character, along with the old memories hidden in their leaves and blossoms. Each flower tells its own story, inviting you to slowly savor the unique gentleness and resilience of the wild.
