Half-Sweet, Bitterly Cold Land

Linjiang's long winters often last half the year. Wind and snow seal the doors, and making a living becomes a struggle.

Shen Yan remains on this frigid stretch of black earth. A hard orange candy is the only sweetness left in her life.

Finding work depends on connections and favors. At home, there is nothing but endless demands. The small city lacks medical resources, while day after day the wind and snow squeeze ordinary people out of the space they need to survive. Through her phone screen, she catches distant glimpses of the warmth, subsidies, and well-developed infrastructure of southern cities. They are dreams forever beyond her reach.

She cannot escape, and enduring it is hard. Blood ties are a net she cannot break free from; reality is a wall she cannot climb over. There are no dramatic highs and lows, only ordinary people quietly struggling in the narrow gap between their circumstances and fate.

This is not a condemnation of any particular place. It is about an ordinary person trapped by where she lives, her endurance, her unwillingness to give in, and her faint hope of survival. Watch her clutch that scant sweetness amid endless wind and snow, little by little searching for a way out of her own.

Theme: Portraying ordinary people's struggle to survive amid regional hardship, protecting oneself in the midst of bitter reality, and exploring escape, the shackles of blood ties, and ordinary people's own redemption.
