Hagiwara, Matsuda Jinpei's childhood friend, is dead.
After watching the building explode with his own eyes and his childhood friend perish in the flames, Matsuda returns to the Metropolitan Police Department in a daze to report in. On the roadside, however, he finds a man who looks almost exactly like Hagiwara, as if he were a carbon copy.
He takes the amnesiac home, gives him the same name as his childhood friend on a whim, lets the man sleep in his bed on a whim, and sleeps with him on a whim. On a whim...
Has he been possessed by a ghost or something?!
Then Matsuda discovers that ghosts really do exist. Monsters known as curses begin running rampant, and ordinary people are powerless against them. Yet the monsters that only sorcerers should be able to exorcise flee in terror whenever they see him, as though he were their natural enemy.
As for that, Hagiwara, the man living in his home, smiles and says that Jinpei-chan is amazing. But Matsuda knows that Hagiwara is always the one protecting him, concealing his swift exorcism skills, then giving him the same sweet smile his childhood friend used to wear.
Again and again, Matsuda lets down his guard, falling for those familiar violet eyes, until the truth is revealed.
Once he confirms that the man really is his dead childhood friend, Matsuda prepares to confess that his feelings have long since changed into something else
"I have someone I want to bring back to life."
Before the shocked and furious faces of the sorcerers, the half-long-haired man standing beside the curse wipes the blood from his face and smiles wistfully.
"He died a thousand years ago. He was the last god of this world."
Matsuda: ???
*
Legend has it that the Dragon God once found a human boy and raised him to adulthood.
Hagiwara, raised by a god, thought he would be the one to leave first. Just as he finally made up his mind to confess his feelings, the god suddenly vanished.
To see him again, Hagiwara spent a thousand years wandering the world in a human body. At last, after suddenly falling unconscious, he awoke and reunited with his god.
But the other man now had a new surname and family, along with a childhood friend who looked exactly like him and even shared his name.
He hates that he fell unconscious at such a convenient time. Otherwise, he would never have let that brat get an opportunity. But the good news is that Matsuda's childhood friend is dead.
So Hagiwara conceals everything strange about himself and stays by the other man's side, gradually encroaching on the young man's space, affection, and boundaries. Whenever the other man dazedly calls out his childhood friend's name, Hagiwara kisses his moving lips.
He will make his god remember everything and live on. He will make that blazing sun once again hang high above the world, seen by all. He will make sure they are never separated again.
And then those eyes will look at no one but him, forever and ever.
"So please, Jinpei-chan, don't look at someone else through me, okay?"
Blurb recorded on 2026/8/23. I'll revise it, but I won't change the premise.
[Reader's Guide]
① Hagi, a gloomy, vengeful thousand-year-old curse user, x Matsuda, a clear-headed police officer and reincarnation of the Dragon God who falls for him. 1v1, happy ending. They appear to be each other's substitutes, but are actually a couple caught in a love triangle with four corners (yes, one more corner than in my last book!).
② The flavor is sweet, sour, and sensual. Includes age manipulation and a raising-up trope; they are each other's younger and older partner. It crosses over with Jujutsu Kaisen, but mainly for the setting and as part of the play. You can follow along even if you haven't read the original. The story is a two-person romance focused purely on their relationship ⚠️ Romance makes up 80% of it; there's hardly any serious plot. Like my story about the fake person, proceed with caution if you want a plot.
③ In this story's setting, gods once existed in the world. Other original settings will be noted in the author's notes. This is purely a major work born from the author's personal tastes. OOC warning; please use your own discretion. You can read 60,000 words for free before it goes premium to get a feel for the style → Don't list my warnings as reasons to avoid this story, thank you. Also, I don't accept any form of writing advice. You don't need to tell me if you drop the story or anything like that.
④ I insist on Hagi x Matsuda, with no switching and no breakups. I want to create a world where a couple love and respect each other. No reader-insert stand-ins of any kind.
Theme: True love overcomes everything.
