After a long slumber, Rhine acquired a strange garden.
...Gardening can't be so bad. Better to be up and lazing around than asleep.
That was what the young master told himself.
But the very first flower gave him a hard time.
For a flower, it was reclusive and (perhaps?) eccentric, and even more delicate and precious than he was.
But given its rare and valuable variety, the young master reluctantly took up the role of diligent gardener, watering and fertilizing it every day.
He poured what little patience he had into this blackish mutant tulip (allegedly), and finally the day came when its bud bloomed.
...It did bloom, all right.
But the farm was also getting robbed. Sometimes someone would rummage through the seed bags; other times, tools would mysteriously disappear and reappear.
Rhine was sure the black tulip was behind it all, and angrily poked it until it turned into a giant trumpet flower.
Hoping the second flower would behave better, Rhine resentfully pulled the weeds, broke ground for a flower bed, and planted a second seed.
Gotham's Dark Knight has been having the same dream lately.
In the dream, he's stuck in one place, and some enormous creature waters and fertilizes him every day.
...So I've turned into a blade of grass in my dream.
That was what the Dark Knight thought.
Then he realized he was wrong.
Because... he bloomed.
(Literally.)
Later, he also realized that the newly planted sunflower next door seemed an awful lot like a certain alien.
Sunflower (wearing a dazzling smile): Hi?
A little skit:
Tulip (with a low sigh): I've bloomed.
Red Camellia (resolute): That's right, it bloomed. A fresh start.
Champagne Rose (wearing a haughty expression): Hmph... it bloomed.
Baby's Breath (muttering something incomprehensible): #%@
Sunflower (facing the sun, still smiling)
A guide to reading this story:
1. This is similar in style to [Fishing Simulator], but leans more toward everyday life. The author writes slow-burn stories.
2. As always, there are mountains of headcanon and lots of OOC. The story isn't based on any related games on the market, for your information.
3. I haven't decided whether to introduce cosmic horror. It feels a little unnecessary for an everyday-life story. The blurb may be revised later.
4. Pairings undecided.
5. The protagonist's personality does not represent the author's. Don't assume the story's values are the author's values.
6. Please don't bring up other works in the comments.
Basically, it's a story about a rich young golden retriever working hard as a gardener. (Yeah.)
