[Pampering] [Age Gap] [Poor Health] [Size Difference] [The One Who Fell First Falls Hardest]
[Cold, aloof wolf x gentle, fragile white rose]
Li Qing is the only son of the Li family.
Born prematurely, he has been frail since birth. A few steps make him cough, and a gust of wind gives him a fever.
The family consulted every renowned doctor they could find, all to no avail. Eventually, a master told them that he needed to marry someone with a strong fate to change his fortune.
So the Li family decided to bring Gu Cheng, the Gu family's adopted son, into their home as a live-in son-in-law.
That year, Li Qing was twelve, and Gu Cheng was eighteen.
They were both sent to an estate abroad to recuperate.
One was gravely ill, the other cold and rebellious. Neither could stand the other, but neither could leave.
Gu Cheng had been given an ultimatum: if he didn't marry, he could forget about returning to the Gu family.
At first, Gu Cheng would set the bowl of medicine down at the corner of the table with a cold expression, then turn and leave.
Later, when Li Qing's coughing grew worse, he would leave an extra glass of warm water by the bed.
When Li Qing had a fever in the middle of the night, he would stay by his bedside until dawn.
When Li Qing's legs gave out on the stairs and he started to fall, Gu Cheng would catch him, then crouch down and carry him downstairs on his back.
Over six years, Gu Cheng carried him countless times.
From upstairs to downstairs, from the living room to the garden, they went everywhere in that house.
Li Qing would wrap his arms around Gu Cheng's neck and rest his cheek on his shoulder, curiously taking in every corner.
But the slightest breeze made him cough, so Gu Cheng would slow down and wait until he could breathe easily again before moving on.
When Li Qing turned eighteen and his health improved, Gu Cheng left the estate.
Later, the Gu family fell into turmoil.
Gu Cheng reclaimed the position of family head and became the most feared man in City A.
His chiseled features were hard and sharp, and a single glance from him could send chills down anyone's spine.
Everyone knew he was especially gentle with people who looked pure and had a delicate air about them, so they kept trying to send people his way. Not one of them ever stayed.
Everyone said the eldest daughter of the Bai family was his white moonlight, and everyone else was just a substitute.
Bai Mo thought so too.
Until the day Li Qing returned to the country. Gu Cheng dropped everything to meet him at the airport, personally carried his luggage, and personally opened the car door.
That day, people witnessed Gu Cheng personally doing countless things, and saw just how special Li Qing was to him.
Someone stepped forward and said Li Qing was nothing but a substitute.
Gu Cheng shot him a cold look and silenced him. Then he bent down and draped his coat over Li Qing's shoulders.
When Li Qing gave even the slightest cough, Gu Cheng panicked. His touch was so gentle, as if he were afraid of breaking him.
Everyone saw it: Gu Cheng, the man who sent chills down people's spines, was bowing his head to pat the back of someone whose coughing had turned his cheeks red, his eyes full of worry.
Li Qing looked up at him, his voice soft and breathy. "What are you doing here?"
Gu Cheng answered quietly, "I'm taking you home. It's time we got married."
Only then did they realize that Li Qing had never been a substitute. He was the fragile rose Gu Cheng had raised with his own hands for six years, watching over him as he grew up at the estate.
He was the one Gu Cheng treasured above all else.
