Mu Yao died, right there in his own sect.
When everyone first heard the news of Mu Yao's death, they instinctively turned to look at his sworn enemy, Hui Ying.
Fresh from a secret realm, Hui Ying sneered. "Is he really dead? Don't tell me he's faking it to get out of paying me back."
Before entering the secret realm, Mu Yao had still been sending her messages, bragging that his Profound-grade Soul-Returning Pill was nearly ready. And now he was dead, in such a pathetic way?
Hui Ying didn't believe it, but... this time, Mu Yao really was dead.
*
A hundred years after her nemesis died, Hui Ying went into seclusion for a hundred years too.
Over that century, Hui Ying broke through to the Nascent Soul stage, but a heart demon arose.
She thought: It must be because I still haven't made Mu Yao kneel before me and beg for mercy.
Unfortunately, Mu Yao was dead.
But that was fine. She could just find a replacement.
Just as she had that thought, a new disciple who looked remarkably like Mu Yao arrived at the sect.
Hui Ying narrowed her eyes. "What's your name?"
The new disciple put on a fawning smile. "Senior Sister, my name is Yao Mu."
Hui Ying's fingers stiffened. She stared at the face that resembled the one in her memories by at least eighty percent and furrowed her brow.
*
To test Yao Mu, Hui Ying deliberately made him do the dirty, exhausting work and humiliated him in front of everyone.
Yao Mu not only didn't get angry, he even hurried over to her, looking eager to please and perfectly happy to take it.
Rumors spread outside the sect: Master Hui Ying and the new disciple were inseparable, and Yao Mu might become Master Hui Ying's cultivation partner.
Hui Ying found it rather boring and turned to enter a secret realm.
A fake was still a fake. She might as well figure out how to bring Mu Yao back to life.
The secret realm was full of dangers, and they said ancient monsters roamed there. Strangely, Hui Ying moved through it as easily as if she were walking on level ground, taking whatever rare treasures she pleased.
She considered this, then "accidentally" wandered into the monster's lair, intending to take its demon core.
At the very moment she was about to succeed, something tightened around her waist. The monster before her vanished, replaced by the face from her memories.
Mu Yao grumbled on and on. "I've been waiting all these years, and you finally remembered me!"
Hui Ying silently fished a jade token out of his sleeve. "Is that so, Junior Brother?"
