After I Was Forced to Bind to the "Orphan's Lament" System

Mu Xiumingguang had spent five years reading light novels. He never expected that, in the year he turned sixteen, he would be bound to the Orphan's Grudge System.

A mysterious System appeared in his mind and buzzed, "Hello, Host. I am the Orphan's Grudge System."

Mu Xiumingguang opened his eyes, looking confused. "An orphanage? You got the wrong person. I'm an orphan, sure, but I've never wanted to start an orphanage."

The System gently explained, "Grudge, as in resentment."

This wasn't how a normal shonen manga was supposed to go! And the words 'orphan's grudge' sounded downright creepy. What kind of good person would get bound to a System like this?

While he was asking himself three questions in a row, the System offered him a deal he couldn't refuse.

Mu Xiumingguang: "Okay, I believe you're a System now. So what do you need me to do?"

System: "Find the orphans in the crowd, collect their resentment, give them hope, and bestow sorrow upon them."

Mu Xiumingguang: "...That's too cruel! And how am I supposed to know whether someone is an orphan? No matter how I ask, it'll feel incredibly rude!"

Mu Xiumingguang: "And give me a clear definition. Light novels say some cunning Systems like to play word games."

System: "Anyone without parents counts as an orphan."

First stop: Jujutsu Kaisen

System: "There is an orphan in the first-year class you've joined. Find them and collect their grudge energy."

Mu Xiumingguang: "You're really careful, aren't you? To avoid giving me any extra information about their gender, you used 'them' instead of he or she. You're way too cunning."

After dutifully pretending to be a student in the first-year class for half a month, Mu Xiumingguang received some shocking news: there were currently four students, including himself, and three of them were orphans.

Mu Xiumingguang: "...Why is the world outside the orphanage so cruel, too?!"

Just as he finished gathering information, an eighty-three-year-old man popped up and said he wanted to take him as an apprentice.

Mu Xiumingguang (waving casually): "No problem. I know where to find energy."

He went straight to the orphanage where he used to live, hoping he might run into his big brother while he was at it. The headmaster was so strict that the two of them used to complain about him behind his back all the time, so his big brother could just share some grudge energy with him.

The good news: Mu Xiumingguang really did happen to run into him. The bad news: it was his big brother with a terrifying collar around his neck, blood all over him, and one enormous tiger paw extended as he prepared to attack the headmaster.

Mu Xiumingguang found himself staring into golden-yellow tiger eyes.

Mu Xiumingguang: "B-B-Big Brother, please don't kill me!"

After a series of chaotic events that nearly turned everything into a complete mess, Mu Xiumingguang became the number-one energy collector in the System Bureau.

He even became a rookie Supernova administrator, and after signing an employment contract, he got a big house, too.

Mu Xiumingguang (laughing and flashing a victory sign): "I'm a genius!"

System (certainly): "You're a genius!"
