The Maid's Daughter from Pride and Prejudice

After entering the world of Pride and Prejudice, Lily discovered two cruel truths:

First, she had been foolish and naive to think of Pride and Prejudice as a love story.

Second, the oily, obsequious cousin portrayed in adaptations would be a top-tier marriage prospect in real life, and he would marry a girl from the gentry like Charlotte.

As the daughter of a maid in the Bennet household, her only possible marriage prospects were the sons of coachmen, cooks, or blacksmiths. Marrying the son of a postman would already be marrying above her station.

When watching the movie, she had thought Elizabeth's £1,000 dowry was nothing compared to Darcy's annual income of £10,000. Reality told her she had been presumptuous.

Her family couldn't save even a few pounds a year. Compared to Elizabeth's dowry, that was what truly amounted to nothing.

Darcy had to weigh the pros and cons before marrying Elizabeth. If he dared marry Lily, then he really would be hopelessly lovestruck.

Unfortunately, he wasn't, and neither was Lily.

Lily didn't want to marry the son of some profession who would probably drink too much and beat his wife. With only the pen in her hand, she had to write herself a bright future.

In an era when women could not live as independent individuals, writing novels became her only chance to change her fate.

In the face of survival, love was insignificant.
