Yao Jinling, courtesy name Huaibao, was the second-in-command of a century-old Yao family business. Born with a silver spoon in his mouth, he made his way through the business world with a jade abacus in hand and never met a setback. In the first half of his life, he did only two stupid things:
First, he fell in love with Qi Jingxing despite being blind to his faults. Second, he was foolish enough to spend most of the family fortune helping Qi Jingxing rise to power.
He thought he had a sharp eye for talent and was investing in a rare gem, a future warlord destined to dominate a chaotic age.
The man did become a warlord, but then turned around and married a well-born lady of equal status. His wedding banquet was packed with guests, and no one remembered who Yao, the second-in-command, was anymore.
On the way back, a bomb sent him back to the age of seventeen.
This year, his parents were still alive, and the jewelry shop, bank, pharmacy, and trading house all still belonged to his family.
This year, Qi Jingxing was still a poor relative who could only call him "Master Huaibao," and could not even scrape together the tuition for military school.
After walking once through the gates of life and death, Yao Jinling finally understood. Rather than leave his vast family fortune to an ungrateful wretch, he might as well spend it on a dog.
This time, he needed to choose a good dog with his eyes wide open.
He set his sights on Qi Jingxing's sworn enemy from his previous life: Luo Zheng.
The man was tough, possessed a backbone of steel, and happened to be short on money.
Yao Jinling handed him a bank draft. "Classmate Luo, I'll invest in you. I have just one condition: crush Qi Jingxing completely and make sure he never rises again."
Luo Zheng did not take it. "I don't want your money."
Yao Jinling readily replied, "Then what do you want? A mansion and a beauty? A luxury car and foreign guns? Ask for whatever you like."
Luo Zheng raised his eyes and slowly traced the features of the beautiful man before him from top to bottom. "I want you."
Only later did the second-in-command Yao learn that this loyal dog was not so easy to keep. He was no poor student at all, but the only legitimate young master of the warlord Luo family.
Later still, the second-in-command Yao learned that Luo Zheng had written the short note that had once shaken him to the core.
"Once this love begins, there is no escaping its calamity. Even if I must die for it, I will do so gladly."

Qi Jingxing could not for the life of him figure out why the second-in-command Yao, who had spoken so sweetly to him just a few days earlier, had suddenly turned cold after one night's sleep.
He couldn't understand it, and couldn't be bothered to try. Yao was just a merchant's son, reeking of money. Even without the Yao family, Qi Jingxing would still make something of himself.
Until one night, memories of his previous life came rushing back like a tide
Yao Jinling had spent his entire fortune on him, staked everything for him, and finally died on the way home on the day of his wedding.
Only after that man died did Qi Jingxing realize how much he loved him.
He loved him until he went mad, until he was consumed by regret, until he died.
The next day, Qi Jingxing rushed to the Yao residence like a madman.
The door opened.
The person who had once given him his whole heart was now held in the arms of his sworn enemy.
