Synopsis:
Song Shi wakes from a dream one day and discovers that the world she lives in is a face-slapping, comeback power fantasy with a male lead, the kind popular on Qidian.
The good news: she isn't an extra.
The bad news: she isn't the heroine, either.
She's the good-for-nothing fiancee dumped by the overpowered male lead.
Song Shi looks at the young man standing beneath the beam with his head bowed. His aloof, noble air is captivating; just standing there, he draws every eye.
Their marriage was arranged when they were children. If nothing went wrong, their families would hold the wedding after her eighteenth birthday.
Song Shi had thought that was how things would go.
From the age of three to eighteen, they had been together for as long as they could remember, sharing their sorrows and their joys...
They were like a tree and a vine that had grown entwined. If they were separated, they were bound to be left covered in wounds.
Now, their parents smile as they discuss the wedding that will soon take place, while the cool and dignified young man sits silently in a corner.
A sudden unease stirs in Song Shi's heart.
In that dream, he loved someone else. She was merely the wife the Heavenly Dao had forcibly arranged for him. In the end, he would break free of its constraints and spend his life with the one destined for him.
What about her?
Song Shi wants to ask: Should the fifteen years they spent together, side by side every day, really be brushed aside so lightly?
"I'm sorry. I love someone else."
She hears him say, "Marrying you isn't what I want."
Song Shi doesn't understand. Just yesterday, when she asked him, "Will we always be together?" he had answered seriously, "Yes."
Do childhood sweethearts really never stand a chance against a destined love that arrives from nowhere?
"All right," she says softly. "If this isn't what you want, then let's part ways and set each other free."
To Lan Wangjun, Song Shi is his childhood companion, the perfect straight man who always plays along, and a good friend who understands and supports his ideals...
Just not his lover.
They're like a tree and a vine that grew together. Parting may hurt, but it will let them grow into something better.
Lan Wangjun doesn't think he did anything wrong.
But he doesn't understand why, when Song Shi's gaze no longer falls on him,
he feels so sad.
