The Inspector Has Been Charmed by an Alien Species

It takes root in a crack in the wasteland, with only one thought: to survive. One day, it finds a human who's close to death. In its bewilderment, it sinks its roots into the human's heart. When the human wakes, Lin Sheng discovers that its roots have grown together with him. His blood is its nourishment. He becomes the only “soil” it will ever have. Human emotions flow through its roots and into its consciousness, heavy and bitter, making its leaves droop. Lin Sheng timidly pokes the human's cheek with a vine. “Mine.” Qin Li coughs up blood. Unable to escape the clingy pothos, he rasps, “...Get lost.” Later, every living thing in the wasteland knows not to mess with the inspector who takes a pothos everywhere. That seemingly delicate plant will tear apart anything that dares touch him, roots and all. Lin Sheng wraps itself around Qin Li's wrist, aggrieved. “He touched you. Bad.” The mutated-species inspector Qin Li sighs in resignation. “I know. I'm yours.” In a world where mutated species and humans are locked in a fight to the death, Qin Li was once the coldest of blades. Until, on the brink of death, he was infected by a mutated pothos. Delicate roots replaced his shattered heart, and unfamiliar emotions surged through his veins. He became its only soil, and it became his only heart. They were natural enemies, yet they lived and grew together. Late at night, Lin Sheng, the mutated pothos, gently embraces the young inspector with its vines, bewildered by the bitterness flowing through his consciousness. “My... soil... why are you unhappy?” Qin Li lowers his gaze to the blue-green veins growing alongside his own beneath his skin. After a long silence, he says, “I'm not unhappy.” “You're just... too clingy.” As their symbiosis grows ever closer, Lin Sheng is no longer content to wrap around his wrist. When tender shoots tentatively slip into his collar and brush the old scar over his heart, Qin Li suddenly grabs them in the darkness. His voice is low and hoarse, carrying the last of an inspector's restraint. “Lin Sheng.” “If you want to know what human touch means...” “Then grow yourself a human form.” Lin Sheng doesn't understand. But it hears in his voice an invitation, something it has always longed to approach but that has remained just out of reach. Supple branches and luminous green veins begin to weave together, forming a beautiful, bewildered shell in human shape. The newborn “hand” imitates the inspector's old mannerisms, slowly lifting to touch Qin Li's lips. Lin Qi is a mutated vine. It spends every day sunbathing in its own territory, occasionally picking up a few mutated creatures to pass the time. One day, Lin Qi senses something biting its vines. It crawls over to look and finds a small white wolf, covered in blood and curled up in the ruins, still biting one of its vines. Lin Qi sends out a mental tendril and pokes the little wolf's forehead. The tendril slips effortlessly into the wolf's mental landscape. The little wolf stops trembling and transforms on the spot into a human boy. Intrigued, Lin Qi takes him home to raise him. Eventually, Lin Qi falls into a deep sleep while advancing to the next level. Before going under, it tells the boy, now in human form, “Be good and don't wander off.” Three years later Lin Qi wakes up, but the person it raised is gone. Lin Qi takes human form and walks out of the forest. It asks every living creature it sees, “Hello, have you seen the person I raised?” The person it asks looks baffled. “...What does he look like?” The seme thinks for a moment. “A white wolf with blue eyes. He bites vines, cooks delicious food, and can turn into a human.” “Oh, got it. He's a sentinel.” Cheng Ye is a dark sentinel whose synchronization with his quantum beast is nearly one hundred percent. His mental defenses are so strong that even six A-rank guides working together can't break through. Everyone thinks he'll stand firm forever, like the wall outside the base that holds back countless mutated creatures. Nobody knows that Cheng Ye's mental landscape has already collapsed, and his life is running out. Until the base brings Lin to him. Cheng Ye says flatly, “No guide can break through my mental defenses.” Lin Qi blinks. “Can I try?” Cheng Ye raises an eyebrow. “Then come on in...” A reader's guide The book is now under contract, so here's a quick list of things to note to help you avoid spending money on something you hate. PS: Reader's guide, setting, and things to note Main pairing: innocent, sweet seme × guiding-type uke. First love for both, physically and emotionally pure, 1v1. Setting: wasteland outside the base, slightly cyberpunk inside. Aberrants: Think of them as having auto-loot turned on in a game. They're forced to absorb any foreign genes (skills). Mutated species: They have self-awareness and can choose whether to pick up skills. The seme's traits: sweet, vicious, clingy, and blunt. Its understanding of the outside world and of itself is the main plotline. The uke is older than the seme in terms of emotional maturity, so their age-gap dynamic will be very apparent at first. Main cast: the male-to-female ratio among both the good and bad characters is about 3:1. No rivalry between women or men. There is a BL side couple. They don't get much screen time, and it's a 1v1 pairing. The seme and uke are a package deal. I won't accept comments trying to split up or reverse the main pairing. (They'll be deleted.)
