I knew from the start that Jiang Yungui cultivated the Heartless Dao.

He didn’t look like other Heartless Dao cultivators. Instead of a sword, he carried an elaborately carved five-string pipa. His features were striking, his clothes gorgeous. Only his eyes gave nothing away: clear and snowy, like an ancient well without a ripple, no matter whom he looked at.

People who fell for Heartless Dao cultivators were doomed to misery. Of course, I wasn’t going to become the one thousand and ninety-third person in the cultivation world to fall in love with Jiang Yungui at first sight.

But he coerced me.

He sat in the deepest part of an ice cave, claiming to be meditating on his cultivation method. If I didn’t carry him out, he’d become another ice sculpture in the frigid north before an hour was up.

If I carried him out, I’d have to wake him. If I woke him, I’d have to talk to him. If I talked to him, I’d have to look into his eyes. And if I looked into his eyes, there was no way I could leave him there. Every step of the way, he was coercing me.

The elders all gathered around me to warn me that Heartless Dao cultivators were terrifying. They’d heard that if one fell in love with someone, they’d kill them to prove their Dao. “Young Master, you absolutely mustn’t fall for a Heartless Dao cultivator!”

What a mess. Not one of them realized I was the one being coerced.

I’d keep him for two days at most, figure out why he was coercing me, then send this first disciple of the Xuantian Sect back to the Upper Continent at once. I wouldn’t keep him a minute longer than necessary. Better yet, I’d make him pay me for it.

Jiang Yungui wasn’t much of a talker. All he knew was that when Young Master Yan started rambling in strange words he couldn’t understand, grabbing him and giving him a kiss might do the trick.

A certain elder had taught him that while he was discreetly asking about Yan Duzhou’s preferences. He had no idea how it worked.

Yan Duzhou, who had been hopping mad a moment ago, did indeed shut up, though not for long.

“Didn’t I tell you last time? You can’t just kiss people! Do you even know what it means to kiss someone?!”

Wasn’t it just a touch? It didn’t feel much different from touching someone’s arm or hand.

Jiang Yungui shook his head and waited for an explanation.

Yan Duzhou stammered for ages, unable to get the words out. At last, he mumbled something even stranger. “Do you want to kill me to prove your Dao?”

“Why would I kill you? If this is about the time I interrupted your cultivation, there’s no need to hold it against me...”

He’d barely asked before Yan Duzhou started shaking him by the shoulders again.

“Why don’t you want to kill me? Aren’t you cultivating the Heartless Dao?”

“You still won’t let me be your Dao companion? You were the one who coerced me! Are you really just pretending? I knew that kiss was an act, too! Jiang Yungui, do you even have a heart? You don’t have a heart at all! ...Forget it, what snacks do you want today?”
