You Hide It, I Hide It

[We fell in love, parted, and reunited in a narrow, damp alley]

Down-on-her-luck heiress vs. brooding young man

When Ning Fu was nineteen, her family fell into ruin, and her father sent her to live with her uncle in Hong Kong.

That was the first time she saw Ning Zhou. The young man was tall and upright, with a stern face. He stood at the end of a rain-soaked alley, holding a black umbrella, his cool, indifferent eyes following her as she stepped out of the car and walked up to him.

He greeted her: "Hello, little sister. I'm your big brother."

For years afterward, Ning Zhou did everything expected of a brother in public. But in private, he forced Ning Fu to call him "big brother" in places where she never should have had to.

Ning Fu thought Ning Zhou was a truly awful person. When she eventually left him, she disappeared without a word.

Years later, they met again. Ning Zhou had earned a string of honors and become one of the most outstanding young officers in Hong Kong's police force. Ning Fu was the host assigned to interview him.

After the interview, a colleague teased Ning Fu: "You and Officer Ning have the same surname. You're not siblings, are you?"

Ning Fu replied coolly, "I don't know him."

Ning Zhou happened to overhear as he walked by. He pulled an invitation from his police uniform and handed it to Ning Fu's colleague. "We're getting married in a few days. You're welcome to come to the ceremony."
