In a world where the sinful “Haze Snow” has descended, people’s hearts have rotted and evil thoughts run rampant. Many people have become spiritually broken.
Xia Zhao is a star cleanser at the Bureau of Anomaly Investigation. Every day, he travels through the darkest corners of the city, pulling one “broken” person after another back from the brink of ruin. He enters their mental realms and searches for fragments of humanity buried within.
Then one day, he finds a beautiful man amid ruins shrouded by Haze Snow. The man is curled up among the rubble, his clothes disheveled, his face haggard, and his peach-blossom eyes damp with a heartbreaking, fragile beauty. Xia Zhao’s protective instincts instantly soar. He’s determined to save him!
But Xia Zhao can’t determine the man’s level of corruption. It’s completely beyond his abilities, so he has no choice but to take this “S-Class, severely broken individual” named Yu Wang back with him and give him the best care and treatment he can.
What he doesn’t know is that the man he brought home isn’t a lamb in need of salvation, but the very culprit behind the disaster that has befallen the world.
Yu Wang finds it ridiculous. This cleanser named Xia Zhao keeps trying childish methods to treat him, all the while murmuring, “Don’t be afraid. I’ll definitely cure you.”
What a pure, foolish person, with nothing in his heart but a useless glimmer of hope… So Yu Wang is certain that destroying him will be the most entertaining game of his long life.
He carefully plans one deadly ambush after another, but Xia Zhao escapes every time by sheer luck. Xia Zhao isn’t afraid of him at all. He even thinks all these attempts on his life are just the result of Yu Wang being contaminated by Haze Snow, so he wants to “cure” him completely.
“How do you want to kill me today?” Xia Zhao asks, a slice of bread in his mouth.
Yu Wang hands him a jar of jam with the lid already open. “How about freezing you at a low temperature? You’ll die without feeling any pain.”
Xia Zhao protests. “That won’t work. I have to write a report today, and I can’t type with frozen fingers. Next time you’re planning a murder, please take my work schedule into account first.”
Yu Wang: “…”
Xia Zhao: “Don’t forget to take your medicine after breakfast. It’s a new formula, specially made to treat your condition.”
Yu Wang: You’re the one who’s sick!!!
Once again, Yu Wang loses control in the mental realm. Shadows turn into blades and coil around Xia Zhao’s neck, and it looks like the murder is about to succeed.
But Xia Zhao recognizes him and wraps his arms tightly around him, gently patting his back. His voice is full of concern. “Did you get bewitched again? Don’t be afraid. No one can hurt you while I’m here.”
The deadly shadows freeze in midair. His murderous intent gradually dissolves in the face of Xia Zhao’s unconditional trust, and daylight returns to the mental realm.
“Why aren’t you afraid?” After yet another failed murder attempt, Yu Wang finally can’t hold back the question.
Xia Zhao’s drowsy mumble comes from beside him, as if it’s the most obvious thing in the world. “Because every time you try to kill me, you look so sad…”
After his Nth failed attempt, Yu Wang still hasn’t been won over. Xia Zhao is exhausted. He tosses the thick treatment plan into the trash and gives up. “The mental realm can go to hell. Whoever wants to deal with it can do it. I’m done with you!”
The God of Calamity panics. Yu Wang puts one end of the iron chain binding him back into Xia Zhao’s hand. His eyes are stubborn yet filled with longing. “…You’re not allowed to give up! You... say you love me one more time, now!”
