I.
Niannian, who had been surviving alone in the apocalypse, transmigrated into a book, landing in a world of tragic romance.
His little face was dirty and gray, and a cold streak of blood remained on his cheek from when a zombie auntie had kissed him tenderly.
An uncle who called himself the System spoke inside his head.
He claimed that Niannian could only return to his original world if he got the story's protagonists back together and made sure they lived happily ever after.
Niannian tried hard to understand what the System uncle meant.
He wanted to go back and see the zombie aunties. They had all treated him well.
When he finally met the so-called protagonists of the tragic romance, he realized they were his papa and daddy!!!
Niannian had never seen his family, not since the day he was born. All he had was an old photograph, which he had looked at over and over until it turned yellow.
II.
His little heart thumping, he hurried along on short legs, following the System's directions to his daddy's company. But the person beside Daddy wasn't Papa. It was a strange man.
The little one didn't understand. The little one was utterly shocked.
Niannian's eyes brimmed with tears as he bit into the apple a pretty auntie at the company entrance had given him. He accidentally knocked out a tooth, and blood ran down his mouth along with his scalding tears.
Poor Niannian, sob sob.
He hadn't even met Daddy and Papa yet, and already he was going to become a child nobody wanted.
He still couldn't quite understand this bizarre and fantastic world. He could think of only one thing:
Were Papa and Daddy getting divorced?
The kids at the zombie kindergarten said that parents got divorced because their children misbehaved.
But Niannian was good. He never cried.
Now he'd been bad and cried, so Daddy and Papa would like him even less.
III.
Only after he cried until his voice went hoarse did a pair of warm, strong hands support his waist and lift him securely into someone's arms.
Niannian kicked his little legs, leaving a few gray footprints on the newcomer.
The man wiped away his tears and held him close, awkwardly trying to comfort him.
Niannian looked up. Papa???
The little one quickly wrapped his arms around Papa and poured out a jumble of words through his tears and snot.
Once he had calmed down, he noticed several lines of text above Papa's head.
The kindergarten kid couldn't read very well. Setting aside his pride, he admitted he was an illiterate little kid and asked the System uncle for help.
The System uncle acted tough but had a soft heart, and read the words to him.
[What an adorable child]
[He looks a little like me. He's outside my company. Could he be my child?]
[A bit of a problem. I don't know how to comfort kids. Would a lollipop work?]
Niannian, now in a better mood, clung to Papa's neck and thought sweetly: Papa still loves him.
P.S. Both leads are devoted to each other, 1v1.
