Feng Xueting is a cat demon.
Three hundred years ago, a human swore he would keep Feng Xueting for the rest of his life. Unfortunately, a human’s life is far too short, while a cat demon’s life is far too long.
That human broke his promise.
But that was all right. Feng Xueting considered himself an exceptionally good cat, a gentleman among cats, with a belly big enough to hold a boat. So he wasn’t going to hold it against a human. He decided to forgive him.
All he had to do was find him.
The cat waited a long time for the human, and searched for him for a long time, too.
Then, one day, Feng Xueting’s nose twitched. He caught the familiar scent. Excited, he clutched his most precious little ceramic cat bowl in his mouth and pounced
Only for the other man to deftly dodge him.
The bowl hit the ground with a clatter and shattered into pieces.
Feng Xueting froze on the spot.
H-He dodged me? And he broke my food bowl?!
The cat couldn’t believe it. The cat’s eyes went wide.
That was the most precious bowl he’d ever chosen!!!
Xie Zhishu had the feeling that a cat had been following him lately.
The cat was pure white, with a pair of clear, sparkling blue eyes like jewels. It sometimes looked at Xie Zhishu with hurt, sometimes with irritation, as if he’d committed some unforgivable crime.
Like right now.
All he’d done was dodge a strange stray cat that suddenly pounced on him, then pick up the pieces of the bowl it broke and toss them in the trash. And now the cat was sitting outside his front door, meowing in a dozen dramatic twists and wailing like he was the world’s most faithless lover.
...Even though he’d never so much as touched it.
Xie Zhishu sighed and lowered his eyes to the fluffy white bundle by his feet. The little white cat kept rubbing its head against his trouser leg, its eyes dewy, while its tail thumped against the ground as if it were very unhappy.
“Meow!”
Xie Zhishu: I don’t understand.
Their eyes met. He stayed silent for three seconds, then finally gave in and bent down to pick up the cat. In a helpless yet gentle voice, he said, “Sorry. It was my fault.”
“Okay, stop meowing. I’ll buy you a new one when we get home.” Xie Zhishu paused, then added, “...I’ll buy you anything you like.”
