A Background Character in a Horror Manga Tries to Save Themself

Cheng Nuo accidentally transmigrates into a horror comic and becomes a poor, minor character who takes a knife for the protagonist.

Every time the protagonist is injured, at the crucial moment he suddenly appears on the scene and promptly takes the hit for him.

But Cheng Nuo doesn't want to die, so he has to stay far away from the protagonist, preferably never to see him again. Yet just as he passes through security and is about to set off on his journey abroad, his head spins. The next second, he is transported a thousand kilometers away, right in front of the protagonist, who is under attack by monsters, and ends up desperately shielding him.

Cheng Nuo (colorful cursing): “...”

There are some choice words in his heart, but he doesn't know whether he should say them.

He asks the System in his head, “Is there nobody else to save the protagonist? Why am I the only one who takes the hit every time something happens?”

System: [Because in the comic's setting, you're the protagonist's best friend. You're willing to give him everything, even your life.]

[All right, in plain language, it's because you're the most popular minor character among the readers. The author keeps dragging you out to appear on-screen and remind everyone you exist, just to save time and brainpower.]

Cheng Nuo: “Heh.”

To stay alive, Cheng Nuo can only step in himself and tear the monsters apart with his bare hands.

Gradually, he notices that the barrage of comments that often appears before his eyes has changed.

[Aaaaaah, this guy named Cheng Nuo is so handsome.]

[I want to vote for this handsome and powerful man.]

[Hubby, I love you!!!]

Later, he realizes that the protagonist's gaze toward him seems a little off.
