The Fierce Hunter's Beloved Little Physician

While gathering herbs in the mountains, Su Xiaoman was so frightened by a wild boar that her legs went weak. But the scar-faced hunter Chen Tianhu, notorious for his fearsome reputation, couldn’t take his eyes off her. The next day, he hauled a three-hundred-jin wild boar to her door and declared, “Come live with me. I’ll keep you well fed and give you my life.”

From then on, the most terrifying wolf in Black Bear Village kept the softest little rabbit by his side.

He was rough around the edges, and at night he’d pull her onto the scorching kang, his voice hoarse. “Wifey, I’ll be gentle…” But the kang nearly collapsed.

He doted on her, racing through the night to find sour apricots for her and driving off hooligans before tossing them into the manure pit. When she went into labor during a snowstorm, he fell to his knees and begged, “Save the mother! Without her, I might as well go feed the wolves!”

When rumors branded him a “bringer of doom,” she kissed his disfiguring scar in front of everyone. “This is my man’s medal of honor!”

When a city butterfly came fluttering over to throw herself at him, he didn’t even bat an eyelid. He swept her up and walked away. “Let’s go home. The kang’s warm.”

Then a wildfire raged across the mountains. He risked his life to save others and fell unconscious, mumbling about his days on the battlefield. Only then did the whole village realize that this quiet, scar-faced hunter was a war hero who had once shielded others from shrapnel with his own body.

Their days passed in a delightful jumble of chaos and honey-sweet affection.

When the educated youth returned to the city, her family came to take her away. She shook her head. “My man’s here, and the kang’s nice and warm.”

In the year of their golden wedding anniversary, she sat on his lap, her hair white with age, and asked, “Brother Huzi, do you still have abs?” The old man grinned, swept her up in his arms, and said, “Why don’t we find out?”
