Captain Gu's Daily Devotion to His Wife

Wen Mian, a rich young lady from Shanghai, is like a carefully cultivated jasmine flower: elegant and delicate, with a captivating beauty mark beneath her eye. One notice turns her life upside down, sending her from the bustling city to the vast black earth of Northeast China.

Gu Jianye, captain of the Qing Shan Brigade, is a retired soldier who rules this place with an iron fist. Stern and imposing, he is the tough man everyone respects. When he first meets Wen Mian, he furrows his brow. How could someone so delicate swing a hoe? She is clearly a greenhouse flower who needs to be sheltered.

And so, everyone sees:

When she faints in the fields, he is the first to rush over, lifting her up and personally feeding her mung bean soup. The whole village is in an uproar: could this ironwood tree really be blooming?

When she twists her ankle by the river, his broad back carries her home. As he massages her ankle, her unconscious little moan makes this tough man blush from his ears to his neck before he flees in embarrassment.

He thinks he is simply doing his duty by looking after her, unaware that his feelings have quietly changed.

She thinks she merely admires his model-worthy height and strong physique, not realizing how deeply she has come to depend on him.

Until he corners her against a wall, sweat still glistening on his bronze skin. His voice is hoarse and strained. “Wen Mian, I’ve taken a shine to you. I’ve liked you for quite a while, and keeping it bottled up is killing me! Just give me a straight answer. Will you or won’t you?”

How will a romance sparked by a “face-loving” heart be tempered into an unwavering love that lasts until death through the everyday trials of food, clothing, and household needs? And what kind of life epic and rags-to-riches legend will the collision of two worlds write on this black earth?

Come see how the Shanghai jasmine takes root in the north and builds a warm, thriving life with her tough brigade captain...
