Gears Grind Vermilion: A General and an Alien Orphan Girl

The Great Jing dynasty appears to be a world of ancient warfare, but beneath the surface lies a sci-fi secret from the stars. Ling Xingluo, an orphaned alien girl, is stranded there with the surviving technology from her crashed spaceship. Her extraordinary “powers,” actually products of primitive technology, are mistaken for demonic abilities, and she is imprisoned.

The battle-hardened general Xiao Jinyuan is ordered to keep watch over her. But after their many clashes, he is drawn to the light of the stars in her eyes and her resilience. Torn between his duty to serve his sovereign and his country and an uncontrollable attraction, he locks her in a secret chamber built from mecha parts, yet repairs her interstellar communicator for her in the dead of night.

When the Great Jing imperial house seeks to use alien technology to wage war, the core of Ling Xingluo’s spaceship becomes the prize everyone fights over. To protect her, Xiao Jinyuan is forced to oppose the entire dynasty. But Ling Xingluo discovers that the destruction of her planet is inextricably linked to the ancestors of Xiao Jinyuan’s family.

Science fiction collides with the ancient world, while love is torn between country and family. They embrace amid gears and blades, only to fall apart over interstellar hatred and dynastic conspiracies. As the light of the spaceship restarting illuminates the palace walls, will she leave carrying her hatred, or stay in the ancient world she loves so deeply it breaks her heart?
