The Emperor Rules the Realm: My Grand Tutor Is a Living Immortal

On the night the imperial city ran red with blood, Wei Heng strode up thirty flights of jade steps with his sword in hand. His dark robes were spattered with enemy blood, but he paused when he saw Shen Zhiyuan. This impoverished scholar in plain clothes dared to burst into the palace clutching The Ten Strategies for Pacifying the Rong, wagering that “a military report from the northern frontier will arrive within three days.”

The report reached the capital right on schedule. Wei Heng immediately appointed him Grand Tutor, placing this “sharp blade” against the throats of the great clans. The Imperial Preceptor burst in, calling Shen Zhiyuan a “disaster star,” and the whole court clamored for his death. Wei Heng only smiled. “I insist on keeping this disaster star to help me rule the realm.”

No one knew that the Grand Tutor, who could plan for every contingency, would get lost in his own courtyard and be caught by the emperor on a late-night visit. No one could have imagined that Wei Heng would personally lead a small force into the Rong clan's royal court to save Shen Zhiyuan from poisoning, returning with three arrows in his shoulder.

But the forged letter of treason by the Cui clan still made Wei Heng see red. When the poisoned wine was brought before Shen Zhiyuan, he said calmly, “The last glimpse of heaven's secrets I gained was that Your Majesty would rule the world.”

Only after Shen Zhiyuan “died” did Wei Heng find the bloodstained notes on the “Broken Army fate” in his old home, and realize he had killed the wrong man. The emperor, who went white overnight, frantically searched the world for elixirs. The only thing he wanted was never the empire, but the Grand Tutor who got lost, feared cats, and could bring order to the realm for him.

Would you believe it? After quelling the rebellions and ushering in a golden age, this iron-fisted emperor chased his directionally challenged Grand Tutor around a villa in Jiangnan, calling him “husband.” He even turned the man's robe into a hopeless tangle of stitches because he was afraid of embroidery needles.
