When the Engine Roars

At six, Lin Ye floored the accelerator on a go-kart track, and the dust kicked up by the tires nearly blinded his coach. At twenty-two, he steered a taxi through the city night, the meter’s ticking drowning out the engine still roaring in his chest. When a tuning legend slammed a bottle of ice-cold cola onto his hood and asked if he dared race on the mountain roads at midnight, Lin Ye realized that the nerves life had worn dull were waking again to the hiss of a turbocharger. From the taxi’s rooftop light to the podium at an international competition, what he had to reclaim was not only the talent that had been let down, but also the boy who once believed the world would make way for him.
