Tides of Change in My Hometown

First, this book describes the implementation of the household responsibility system in the author's hometown. Farmers became more enthusiastic about their work, but the land there was dry farmland. The following year brought a severe drought, so everyone rushed around to help one another through the crisis. The government provided extensive disaster relief, and at last, after spring came and went, the autumn harvest arrived. People had enough to eat and wear.

Some farsighted people, meanwhile, worked hard without fear of hardship or exhaustion, supporting their children through university and ultimately achieving remarkable results.

Next, the book recounts how everyone joined efforts to fight drought and pursue prosperity, actively taking part in water and electricity projects that laid the foundation for a better life. They first grew wheat, then planted peas intercropped with corn, followed by potatoes and goji berries. Each shift in cash-crop production brought major changes to the hometown. Education changed significantly, too. These university graduates were found everywhere, and after starting work, they offered advice, donated money and supplies, and greatly advanced the local economy.

The book says that if you plant a parasol tree, you needn't fear that a golden phoenix won't come. Throughout the planting efforts, the community made way for those who took the lead, encouraging their initiative. Scientific, effective specialty products became an important addition to the local economy's rapid growth. After becoming prosperous, these pioneers invested in Hope Primary Schools, giving back to society.

The novel revolves around the theme of change, with a clear central storyline, distinct characters, and a winding plot. By focusing on the idea of greatness, it serves the theme of change, driving rural reform to one new climax after another.
