I've read so many books that I can usually predict what comes next as soon as I spot the formula. These days it's one overused trope after another. Either it's one fight after another, until reading becomes exhausting. Or the story plunges into one long dungeon arc. It's convenient for the author, but it really insults the reader's intelligence. Or the author thinks they're clever and that their comedy is hilarious, when in reality it's just... painfully bad. Personally, I think a good author should stop trying to be clever. Don't rush the plot or the tropes. First, try making the protagonist a relatively normal person who acts logically. Sigh, though, that's easier said than done. I remember Wang Zengqi once said, “The art of seeming unintentional through deliberate effort.” Of course, the point of a book list is still to share books that are “good to read.” If I don't enjoy a book and can't keep reading it, there's no reason to keep it on the list.
