The Rusted Fate of a Trickster

An attack no one can make sense of. A bronze lump passed down through generations. A system of conjuring tricks hidden in the city's shadowy side. A contest of schemes spanning two thousand years.

At dawn on September 1, 2002, as a phone rang urgently, the fate of Kang Qu, a student who failed the college entrance exam, changed completely. Color tricks, thread tricks, sleight of hand, drug tricks, talisman tricks, and the art of moving objects: a world of conjuring he had never imagined reshaped his life in the most unexpected way.

A conjurer among men, a ■■ gatekeeper;

A performance ■■ suppresses ■■, feigning falsehood to protect the truth.
