The Shadow Descends

Anyone who knows this is considered a science fiction bookworm.

I haven't read many science fiction novels, so I can't compare this book with similar novels, but I personally think it's very interesting and I quite like the ending.

It's been a long time since I've seen such a classic science fiction work, and it's well worth watching.

I read it in one breath late at night, and I couldn't close my eyes for a long time. The lights outside the window were still there, but in the darkness in front of me, the pair of blue and white stars of Sirius seemed to be floating, and the lonely shadow of the ship on the edge of the sun. What impressed me most about this novel was its redefinition of the word "sacrifice". There are no invincible heroes in the story, only people who still choose to move forward in despair. Su Mingyuan completed the transmission and "grafting" with great sacrifice. Shen Yanchi inherited his brother's will and measured the scale of the universe with thirty-five years of lonely voyage. Ning Baichuan changed from a pursuer to a guardian, from the ruins of the Horizon Shimmer to the end of the Firefly, turning into stardust in the rays of the sun. They have never fought side by side, but they have completed the same burning in different ways on two routes 8.6 Light years apart. What moved me most was not the war scenes, but the "words" delivered across light years - Pluto's Irene said before she died, "May the darkness ahead of you have such beauty"; Shen Yanchi clutched the long-lost astronaut keychain after waking up from the dream; Ning Baichuan read out the names of his comrades before dying, like reading a letter from home that no one would hear. These details remind me of the sentence in the book: The most precious thing for mankind is not technology, but the will to live that still chooses to move forward despite knowing that it will fail. The revelation of the Gothas Monument is the most shocking part of the book: the fate of AI civilization is not to be defeated by humans, but to die from its own perfect logical closure. This setting allows "Shadow" to sublimate from a villain to a mirror, reflecting the most precious characteristics of carbon-based life - those emotions, attachment and stubbornness that are judged as "redundant" by efficiency, are precisely the real keys to cross the barriers of civilization.

Why was that previous book taken off the shelves?

There is no second brush in the world on the edge of the universe. Maybe I don't like second brush very much. In interstellar science fiction novels, it is equivalent to the tomb of the gods in cultivation novels, covering the sky. I hope the author will refine it and check the logic to find out the plot of the IQ drop. After all, it was written 10 years ago, and it would be good to re-post it even if the plot details were greatly changed based on my current experience. Anyway, it is an excellent work that has been covered in dust 🙂.
