Wu Qiyan, in a sudden bonding heat, sprawled helplessly over the dog’s back, both hands clutching its fur restlessly. "Get your mental tentacles out of me."

Only then did Wen Ying realize that his mental tentacles had somehow slipped into the other man’s mental landscape.

Wen Ying panicked, at a loss. "I-I... What do I do?"

Wu Qiyan gritted his teeth. "Get them out!"

"Y-You’re too tight. I can’t get them out..."

In the year 323 of Blue Star, more than three centuries had passed since humanity left Earth and came to live on Blue Star.

On Blue Star, humanity discovered a nearly extinct species: merfolk.

Deep-sea merfolk were apex predators who looked similar to mermaids and mermen.

They were naturally combative and brutally murderous, and there was no species they wouldn’t eat.

Lan Ai was the leader of the merfolk, and lived up to his name: he was a terminally lazy fish. A few centuries ago, tired of his people’s constant fighting, he left the tribe.

He came to Blue Star and found a stretch of water to live in alone.

When he got hungry, he’d catch small fish, shrimp, and weeds from around his home. For centuries, he never once left the house.

The fish and shrimp stopped coming near him, and he’d long since eaten all the water plants around his home. With nothing left but skin and bones, Lan Ai had no choice but to go hunting.

There were no fish or shrimp for a hundred miles, only weeds. Lan Ai was so hungry he could barely swim.

As he floated belly-up in the water, pretending to be dead, a delicious box fell from the sky.

To taste that delicious food again, Lan Ai swam out of the deep sea and discovered that two new species had appeared on the planet where he’d once lived alone:

The humans who made the delicious boxes, and the plump merfolk raised by humans.

Lan Ai wanted a human caretaker too.

So he filed down his claws and fangs, put on a seashell bandeau, and dyed his hair red with red algae to disguise himself as a mermaid.

Shen Yizhao was at the top of the Blue Star rich list. Due to a psychological illness, he bought a villa by the sea to recuperate.

One day, someone knocked at the villa’s front door.

Shen Yizhao opened it and stared silently at Lan Ai, who sat on the steps looking neither male nor female, neither human nor fish.

He was having another episode...

Shen Yizhao closed the door impassively.

At his doctor’s request, Shen Yizhao went night fishing.

Lan Ai, who had been lurking in the water for a long time, bit down on the fishhook and swallowed the fish that had been fighting him for it.

Shen Yizhao reeled in his line without much interest.

Lan Ai, hauled out of the water, grinned. His bloodied teeth were still stuck with fish scales and bones.

Shen Yizhao threw the fish and the fishing rod back into the water.

His illness seemed to be getting worse.

Later, after following the doctor’s advice and adopting a mermaid to cure his illness, Shen Yizhao struggled to crawl out from beneath the rutting, nest-building merfolk.
