A Pitcher Who Can't Hit Isn't a Good Pitcher

Kagurazaka Koki is a pitcher.

A pitcher who ate dirt during the Red and White game.

On his first day at Seido, he had planned to tell the big brother next door that he would blaze his own trail. But his hitting was so awful that even his outstanding pitching couldn't make up for it. During that Red and White game, he fell flat on his face while holding a bat, and even the BOSS, wearing sunglasses, watched him with a smile.

BOSS (dramatic black-background version): A guy who can't even hit doesn't deserve to stand on the mound. (Imagined version, of course.)

So today, Koki is once again working hard on his hitting from the pitcher's mound.

The bespectacled catcher beside him asks why he's practicing hitting on the mound. Koki replies: Because my big brother next door said that standing on the mound means I can take back everything that belongs to me, including my dangerously low single-digit grades!

The bespectacled catcher: No, what kind of magical idea is that? It can't do anything like that!

The BOSS once asked him why he'd come to Seido, and why he'd chosen this place.

What did Koki say at the time?

Facing the BOSS in sunglasses against a black background (imagined version, of course),

he said: I came to Seido because they haven't made it to Koshien in a long time.

He didn't come here to become the ace, or because he wanted to stand on the mound, or because he wanted to prove anything.

He just thought it would be fun if he could help a team that hadn't made it to Koshien in a long time get there.

That's right, fun.

Winning is fun. Losing isn't, but figuring out how to win after a loss is fun, too.

Whether it was Kei-nii next door or his dad, they both told him the same thing: baseball is fun.

So he wants to make baseball at Seido fun.

*Male lead, no romance

*Seido will win the Koshien championship, but not right away. It's a slow build, and they'll only win later on. There are lots of headcanons, such as Chris not getting injured, Tanba not getting injured, and changes to school assignments and game rules. It's all about enjoying baseball.
