The Princess's Imperial Envoy

Tianquan, spring of the twenty-third year of Taian. An imperial commissioner travels south on an inspection tour, acting in the emperor’s name. His duties are to learn about the people’s lives and inspect the records of the various prefectures and offices. Such tours are nothing out of the ordinary, but this time the commissioner is Lin Suxue, the emperor’s seventh princess.

With a pair of yin-yang eyes and a jade pendant she was born with, Lin Suxue has been able to see what others cannot since she came of age.

Wronged spirits pleading for help, strange creatures blocking the road: from the very beginning, her inspection tour seems anything but ordinary.

Lin Suxue, the seventh princess of Tianquan, has never cared for poetry or songs, nor has she been interested in wielding a staff or a spear. Lively and unconventional, she is especially fond of stories about wandering heroes and tales of the strange.

Shao Mingyu, the general’s son, is just as free-spirited. A guard bearing a saber at the emperor’s side, he has known Lin Suxue since childhood. Though they grew up together, they are constantly finding fault with each other and can’t stand one another.

Lin Suxue hates Shao Mingyu’s arrogance and sharp tongue. Rather than honor the marriage contract arranged for her long ago, she longs to spend her life with someone who loves her as much as she loves him.

Shao Mingyu hates Lin Suxue’s spoiled ways and her disregard for everyone around her. His ideal wife would be a calm and graceful woman who, like him, could wield a sword and a saber.

The two can’t stand each other, but their parents see things very differently.

Thus, an agreement made with each harboring their own intentions sets a princess on the road as an imperial commissioner.

To get out of the engagement, Shao Mingyu also leaves the capital with her.

And so begins an unusual, chaotic inspection tour.
